I am convinced that this is essentially Black Desert designed for the ground up as a single player RPG. I expect there to be a lot of detail in the world design and the combat to be a lot of fun. The story will probably be complete trash.
I see this as being a better Dragon's Dogma.

I will play this eventually. I'm not the biggest fan of RE. From a survival horror standpoint, there are generally much better, much scarrier games out there.
I enjoyed RE4 Remake. RE Village was just ok. RE2 Remake was bleh.
RE5 might be my favorite because of how batshit insane it is

re: AC Shadows is surprisingly good

I liked it when it came out, but having gone back to play it, I think it's by far the weakest of the RPG AC games.
Of all the games set in open world Japan recently released, this is probably the most bland, boring version.
The cities feel very copy/paste and are mostly devoid of NPC activity. I do not feel that this is entirely due to the setting.
The side activities are very bland/repetitive.
Yasuke is kind of a more interesting character storyline-wise, but he is a character made for people who hate playing AC games.

I really don't know if I believe that the BotW style Zelda has as much of a shelf life as the Ocarina of Time-inspired games released up to that point.

There's a lot of parallel between Dragon Age Veilguard and FF 16. FF 16 just as much stronger writing.
Honeslty the biggest indicator of how fricked we are was when Christopher Judge mocked the length of that year's CoD campaign at the game awards, and a butthurt CoD goes on twitter bragging about CoD's "player engagement metrics" treating it like it's some kind of massive gotcha moment.
At one point in time you had people with passion making video games. Now you have corporate drones.

Microsoft is quite literally the biggest cancer in gaming.
Buying up a like a 4th of the third party gaming space then just sitting on them while they silently implode.
Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, these people are all awful and never need to work in gaming again.

re: Yakuza Studio seems to be having some trouble

I think in general they have leaned too far into the wackiness aspect. Probably has something to do with the original director leaving Sega.
They've also embraced a lot of unfortunate AAA gaming trends with making their games 80 hours long and their maps enormous for no reason.
The games were better when they were 15-20 hours long set in small maps densely packed with activities. I think when you feel compelled to develop a segway for players to travel around faster, you've probably messed up somewhere.
A bad Yakuza game isn't a horrible experience, but my problems with Kiwami are mostly into how it looks visually and the lack of quality sub stories. I am starting to wonder if the studio is bleeding talent or stretched too thin.

I still find it amusing that HBO makes a series based on a war then realizes they don't have the budget to show the war.
Considering George RR Martin has essentially walked away form this project, I don't feel optimistic for the series.

Yakuza Studio seems to be having some trouble
Posted by BulldogXero on 2/19/26 at 8:32 pm
I was not the biggest fan of Infinite Wealth. Too much focus on wacky side activity bloat and the main story was quite bad. The studio just can't seem to quit Kazuma Kiryu, even after providing him with an amazing sendoff in Yakuza 6.
I enjoyed Gaiden, but one would think the games were developed simultaneously or something as there are multiple inconsistencies between the two games.
Pirate Yakuza tacked on mediocre ship battles to the standard formula, and the main story is a giant nothing burger. The biggest offender is the completely fricked up lighting that makes me feel like my retinas are about to explode every time the main character walks outside during the day.
Now, we have Kiwami 3. Kiwami 3 seems to have fans up and arms over changes to the original story and character designs. I am not as up-in-arms about that, but the much advertised additional story (Dark Ties) is like 3 hours long. There is eggregious asset re-use in a game known for asset re-use. Kazuma Kiryu's Hawaiian shirt he wears in Okinawa is the same one Majima wears in Pirate Yakuza. Then, once again, the lighting is just bad. It's bad in an entirely different way than Pirate Yakuza. It doesn't make my eyes burst looking at it but it looks overexposed and washed out in Okinawa then in Kamurocho there's this really weird blue filter. Nevermind the fact that, for some reason, the city streets are devoid of NPCs so the whole world just feels dead.
At least it has Emergency Call Ambulance as one of the playable arcade games which is a game I totally forgot existed.
Essentially, they seem to have lost the ability to tell good stories, and have completely fricked up the visuals that the dragon engine is capable of putting out.

Well then whoever internally at Playstation championed acquiring this studio should also be let go, but we know how these things tend to work.

That describes pretty much every franchise. The constant chase for more and more sales eventually leads to watered down mush.
Final Fantasy and Assassin's Creed are the biggest examples of this.

While I understand this is a micro event, I feel some have rushed the experiment.
To be fair, depending on the company, a lot of times interacting with customer service isn't all that different from interacting with an AI due to how scripted they are. In some instances, an AI may actually seem more personable.

I am of the opinion that a good product sells itself. The problem is that there are very few truly good products out there.

Doctors will be relatively safe. Engineers too.
I don't know about that. A doctor is either A) a walking encyclopedia of medical knowledge or B) someone who knows how to perform repeatable procedures on the human body.
Both of those tasks seem prime for AI.
The problem with AI in general though is that it has no idea whether or not what it is saying is factually correct. I'm not an AI expert by any means, but I am fairly certain to say that we would need to re-evaluate the entire premise of large language models in order to correct this.
The real problem IMO is that companies are going whole hog into the potential of AI; without fulling understanding if or how it can fill their needs, tasking employees with just figuring it out.
billions of dollars are being pumped into AI, but it has yet to show any real ROI. The burble bursting is going to be rough.

I feel like the Russians dominated figure skating for years by having an army of 15 year olds that would just skate around until like the last minute of the skate and then start doing a bunch of jumps and spins.

TL;DW - Most MMO players are looking for community, most MMO developers are looking to make a game. This becomes important when looking at new MMO's because it sets the foundation for his hypothesis that people flocking to these new and untested MMOs are doing so because they want that feeling of being on the ground floor of the community instead of the person showing up well after the hype and hooplah of beta, EA, etc and then learning the game after a majority of the community has progressed out of the newbie stage.
That is basically a long way around just saying that gamers are attracted to the shiny new toy.
The best time to get into any multiplayer game is at release.
None of that matters in the long run though if the game is feature incomplete and has no content.

I legit think studios like Ubisoft, BioWare, or Naughty Dog no longer have enough talent to release a new game.
The corporate overlords play their part, but are they the reason why writing, game design, and even animations have taken such a step back from like a decade ago? No, I don't think so.
Rockstar has simply milked the ever loving frick out of GTA Online. What reason did they have to release a new GTA when the drones keep pouring money into the online game? I don't suspect GTA 6 will be bad, but I don't think it will live up to the hype. How could it?

Assassin's Creed Games Totally Screwed on PC

Other than Ubisoft being Ubisoft, why are PC ports of their most recent titles in such a shoddy state?
Re-downloaded AC Shadows and apparently there's an issue with a Windows update that is literally halving the FPS. Second time it's happened too
Said ok, not going to do with that, so I re-installed Valhalla. Played for a few hours just fine but now I am crashing every 10 minutes.
I also played Unity (how recent is recent), and had to limit the FPS to 120 because the FPS would outrun the game's ability to render the environment.

MMORPGs have to have the lowest batting average of any genre ever.
Well the thing is that it's probably one of the most difficult genres to break into Indie studios like the Ashes of Creation devs are just setting themselves up for failure.
Beyond that, I would say that almost every MMORPG released in the late 00s early 2010s boom period essentially had the exact same issues.
1) Using an unwieldy game engine that did not run well on most PCs of its day.
2) Polishing the frick out of the early game experience and ignoring the endgame
3) Slapping an established IP on top of copy/paste World of Warcraft mechanics
