SLi is if you had 2 760s that would run together in unison, and they would act like one really powerful card.

Well that would be a "parallel" work load. SLi the cards are not in unison and working in a "serial" workload.
One card renders horizontal, then next renders vertical usually. Only 1 card is working at a given time.
