I went left, straight into a tank, I think maybe I went to the other entrance because I just spawned to a different entrance

I did that mission sans car. Was hard as all hell.
Shot the guard, ran into the pathway between the inner and outer wall, ran to the next opening, let the army file into the small alley in single file, killed a bunch. Ran forward to the buildings, killed more. Hauled arse to the helicopter.
Died a ton, but eventually got it. I stole a tank but that seems to spawn a bunch of tanks in the base and was generally a bad idea. It seems to take about 4 shells from a tank to kill a player tank and ai tanks take 2-3 shells. So 7 ai tanks vs 1 player tank = no bueno.

apparently, the wanted level at 5 stars will not go away until you are unseen for 3 in-game days

Just beat the game in story mode. I fricking loved it. 
Replay value. This game has tons of it. That cannot be disputed.
This game has some funny shite in it too. Like for instance where the 3 women were walking and chanting we are women and empowered and all that bs and Trevor was walking up, heard them and then yelled at them to shut the frick up and they got real quiet. I laughed IRL at that.
Trevor is fricking bat shite crazy and insane. His introduction scene to present day was great. fricking a meth head and kicking Johnny in the face. He also has the craziest missions in the game.
Franklin in the hood and Lamar was interesting. Do people in the hood really use the n word in every other sentence like they did in the game? Talk about low info people. I know it's actually much worse IRL than that.
Great game. I'm about to get me some mo money.

Not as much as those 2 do
Lamar was probably the funniest character in the game IMO

Did you press the button to hook it up or drop it?
Anyway, one difference is that it's easy as shite to get a two star wanted level. It doesn't take much for it.
I'm going to steal a C-130 from the military base and park it at the airport hangar that you buy.

yeah, but there are so many little alleys and wide open wilderness to easily evade 2 or 3 stars.

Agreed.
Only disappointment of the game IMO.
It's way too shaky and not as stable and controlled as GTA IV was.
