It is a physics puzzle game with a gun that gives you two transportion portals that you fire and place at will.
As fun as the game itself is, the computer GlaDOS is constanting rooting against you and trying to kill you in the name of science.
This was my best attempt to describe it. Pick up portal one off Xbox marketplace or get the ps3 version at your local gamestop and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

portals seemed to be a throw away game that came with the Orange box. A buddy of mine told me how much fun it was and I went back after 6 months and played it and it may have been the best game of all the games.

Damn, you also get the PC version free. Looks like Valve is trying to get a share of the console pie. Could we be seeing a Counter Strike 2 announcement soon?

Been playing it all day.
Spoiler: When you think you have to go through the floor, you don't you have to shoot a portal through the corner of the room and then come out behind you. Then make another portal right after so that you fall in and end up where you need to go. Don't sprint through the portal. walk... slowly. You'll see what I mean after the 10th try.

I didn't read that spoiler, and I'm trying hard not to keep my eyes off of it, but how is the game overall? Story as good and as well written as the first?

I'm downloading the original Portal on live right now and I'm gonna beat it again and then I'll probably go to the midnight release. This game should be tons of fun.
