Buying a new router isn't going to solve the problem. Just log into your current router and setup the QoS. Give each device a static IP(has to be done on each computer). Then, set each device to it's level of access. What you're doing is prioritizing the bandwidth for each device. Say you have 3 laptops and a ps4. Set the laptops to the normal setting, and the ps4 to high priority. When you turn on the ps4 the router notices and will allow more bandwidth to the ps4 than it will to the laptops.
There's a couple of more steps for setting up the static IP, but you can google them. It all and all takes about 5 minutes to set up.

Linksys has a priority list showing all devices connected that makes that easy as shite if he has one of those. Takes 20 seconds to drag and drop.

yes, that is nice. How does it recognize the devices? Through MAC address? It can't doing it from IP, because IPs are changed and reassigned if they're not static.

So I played BF4 last night, and all my multiplayer progress was gone. ranked 1 and no weapons unlocked
restarted the game and it all came back, don't know what that was all about

It's really simple. Mostly cut and dry. If hardwired, just choose which ethernet port to prioritze.
