I'm a completionist at heart and I always want to get everything, but at my age with limited gaming time I usually have to make a business decision to just finish the game.

I try to kind of split the difference. I’ll look up points of no return (both for the game as a whole as well as for clusters of quests/missions), see what kind of post-game there is, if any. From there, I just pace the game in a way I find enjoyable. If I want to just hang out and explore, I do that. If I want to push the story forward, I do that. And once I’ve decided to do that, I’ll come back and do more exploring in the end game if I’m still feeling the itch. But I have very much moved away from a “must do everything before I finish the story” attitude. Except for in Mass Effect games, but that’s a different animal entirely

Far Cry 2 online matches with player made maps was always so much fun. Then Far Cry 3 onwards took out public lobbies. Everything was quick play on randomly selected player created maps that were approved. Kind of lame that you couldn’t pick and choose what maps you wanted to play specifically but allowed you to play maps you may have passed on.

Playing through Far Cry 5 right now, and so far Far Cry 6 is a much better game. I have been hunted by airplanes, that I don't have a reasonable response for yet, for most of the game so far. It's infuriating.

You can shoot them down with anything really. Sniper rifle works well if you can aim fast enough.

Get out of their line of sight and wait for them to leave.
They're not Open and slow as molasses so it's mainly irritating at the worst.

Doesn't work. They can apparently see through trees and strafe you in the forest.

Not my experience at all. They often bomb me in vehicles while I'm on quests. I'm having to redo quests from the beginning multiple times because of this. It's the worst thing I've seen in an open world game in a long time.
I can sit under a bridge till they leave me alone, and the moment I come out there's instantly a plane on top of me again. Can't keep a companion because of this either. They often die to planes as soon as I can summon them again.
ETA: if the game didn't require you to down a general before unlocking the last weapon slot, it wouldn't be so bad. I just can't afford to keep a rocket launcher as one of my weapons yet. This one small change in Far Cry 6 (not requiring you to use "perk points" and clear artificial barriers to get all your weapon slots) makes it a better game, at least in terms of mechanics.

Just finished 5. Once I got a flying companion, the nonstop dive-bombing from evil airplanes subsided greatly. Game was almost too easy at that point, so maybe that's why they threw them in.
Ending was a huge letdown. If I had played this one first, with that ending, I don't know that I'd have ever played another ever again.

What's wrong with the ending?

Completely unfulfilling. Basically, the entire game was pointless and the best ending was just to leave at the beginning.

I mean....the crazies were right. I thought it was pretty good.
I thought the continuation of the story in New Dawn worked as well.

Maybe so. I believe a game's story should stand on its own without having to purchase an expansion to get closure.
ETA: The crazies being right wasn't really my problem with it.
