re: SIAP NCAA will not renew contract with EA Sports

This is all due to former UCLA basketball player Ed O'Bannon's lawsuit suing the NCAA for using the players likeness. This is the NCAA running in fear and not having to pay all the actual players a fee for using their likeness in the game.

EA can and probably still will make a college game
That's only if they get into a new contract for the license that will likely be with non-exclusive rights.

could still have a game if ea wants
The CLC is basically a group license for all 127 teams. The CLC is separate from the NCAA. clc licenses the bcs and all the bowls. ea could still make game just lose "ncaa" on the cover, still have all teams and bowls

Half the people are saying that this is the end of any College game and the other half are saying that this is being overblown and there is nothing to worry about. I don't know who to believe!

I am still not reading it the same as everyone else, apparently. The individual colleges license themselves. So a college football game can still be made with all schools, school logos, mascots, player likeness, stadium likeness, etc...as long as each individual school doesn't back out. Each conference and bowl game probably license itself too, which means they won't be effected by this either.
It's just the ncaa logos and names that can't be used anymore. So it'll go back to the 90s when we had Bill Walsh College Football instead of NCAA College Football 14. EA can still make a "College Football 15" (or 16 or whatever) , it just can't use the NCAA name or actual logos of the NCAA.
Am I wrong? That's just how I see it
Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer nor did I read the entire article, haha

Doesn't look like the case either:

Ok, that changes everything I just posted because that takes away the licenses from each individual college

thats y i said if ea wants, from that statement looks like they are getting away from college brand. im sure someone else will try an step in and team with espn and try and capitalize on this. we will see

I don't see anyone stepping in. EA could only managed, because they have 2 games a year using the same engine (NFL/NCAA), which makes things cost effective. Someone else would have to create their own engine from scratch. 2K looks to be getting out of most of their sports games, and who else is out there???
Sony or MS resurrect their dead football teams?

never know, i just see espn "who is trying to take over college fb" teaming with someone in the future

Unless 2K steps up (I doubt they will) there isn't much of an independent sports game developer market for ESPN to partner with.

Which could open the door for them. The only two things they have a grapple on is the NBA and MLB on the Xbox (if you really buy MLB 2K on the PS3, let me know so I can come slap you).
You ask most yearly football gamers and most will tell you that ESPN NFL 2K5 is one of the best they have played. Hell it's so loved that there are people that still make updated rosters for the game. 2K had the ESPN license back then so I feel like they could pick that up again if they wanted.
Not saying they will do this, but there is an opportunity for them to get into NCAA. EA's NFL license is running out as well

I have a feeling it could look like Roger Clemens MVP Baseball. The Braves were the Atlanta Commodores.
