It seems like a big deviation from what was intended in the rules of golf..probably something they couldn’t have thought about. I think it takes away from the skill of putting and it slows things down. I’d put a limit on the length of any markings on the ball, and make it illegal to mark a ball on th green more than once.

So if I miss a putt and am in someone's line, and I've already marked once do I get penalized a stroke with this rule?

No. Are you high? The brand and numbering exists so you could just as easily align from that if you choose to putt that way. Personally I use the angle of my putter blade to align putts, since its striking the ball.

If the brand word was that god of an alignment aid then there wouldn’t be as many guys using the line. I just think it’s outside the spirit of the game and should not be allowed.

You still have to make the putt. And this is coming from someone who doesn't use any type of alignment aid on the ball itself.

A player needs confidence standing over the ball. If that means they need a logo, one line, three colored lines, who cares?

I don't think they are using that alignment, are they? You're talking about PGA players? Putters have markings as well, should those be banned? I suppose I wouldn't be upset with any of those things. Everyone can use the "benefit" so its OK with this duffer. I've never given it any thought because I've never wrote much on my balls. Maybe a dimple spot for identification, and a close shave for the ladies.

The opposite side of the brand name is usually a narrow line with arrows.

If all can do it I see no issue.
