So pretty much all the courses I play right now either have a lift clean and place bunker rule or they say don’t play them at all in order to limit contact with takes and sand and what not. I tried to play out of one today and it’s 100% dirt almost impossible to do, they aren’t maintaining them because they don’t want people in them

So do you still record your handicap even though without playing bunkers the course is way easier?

Played the state am being able to lift and place in bunkers. As far as pulling out of the bunker... find a better course.

Well just about every single municipal course in Dallas is telling you to pull out of the bunker right now

I've played 7 different courses in LA and FL since Covid, and bunker play ranges from lift, clean, and place to actually having rakes.

All of them were maintained, including public courses.

The only time I've seen bunkers not in play were when standing water was present.

Well come to Dallas and you’ll see different. They nearly all are saying just to pull it out, and because of that they aren’t maintained at all, it ranges from rock hard dirt to basically mud depending on the course

You still keep your handicap the same. Just dont hit it in the bunker. They are a hazard. You dont adjust your score if you hit it in GUR anywhere else.

They aren’t playing them as a hazard. The rule is if you hit it in the bunker, pull it out backwards or sideways no closer to the hole and drop with no penalty. Yes just like ground under repair. It just seems a little unfair because bunkers are no longer anything to concern yourself with

I think the proper free drop should be on the line of entry no closer to the hole, not sideways

But not something I would be very strict about w/o a money game

Luckily for me I hacked it around and shot 85 today, only had to pull out of one bunker. That round will do a great job of keeping my handicap nice and high

I play in a pretty strict skins game in Plano... We lift it, rake the area with foot, place ball and hope for the best. We actually had 3 sand saves in our group this last weekend. It's certainly not ideal, but it's not impossible to get up and down.
