I have always had trouble with this. When I try it always slices. Any tips?

Do you mean hitting the ball first?

Look in front of the ball and hit that spot.

Make the move with your body - not your arms - turn through the ball -

Hands in front. Practice. Start slowly. This 5 stage progression may help.

Like most things in golf, what makes sense is not always what is necessary. Make sure you have a small amount of tilt AWAY from the target at Impact and keep your head slightly behind the ball. This will force your body into the correct impact alignments. Make sure your ball position is correct also.

it's all a matter of weight shift and intuitively using momentum. you want your club momentum going out to the target, not down at the ball. don't worry about hitting the ball, your subconscious takes care of that.

focus on the target and plant your front foot in the downswing like you're going to hit a baseball. if you don't post up on that foot, there's no axis for your body to tun on and it'll be impossible to get your left side out of the way and right side going forward.

also, your arms should be very passive in the downswing, let your body move your arms into position while you turn on your posted lead leg.

this might help:
