Get Webb in Beaver Creeks shape and Baton Rouge golf is perfect.
That will never happen at Webb.

The only thing preventing that is the traffic. Gotta admit Webb has made massive strides in terms of its conditions. This super is doing a pretty good job. Just wish they’d stop over-seeding with rye in the winter because when it dies out in the spring and the Bermuda hasn’t filled in, it’s a waste of time to play.

whats boring about Beaver?
Elle mentioned it was boring as well, it has some good holes to me, some dog logs, short and long par 4s etc.

It’s easy and hardly memorable. No holes stand out. Nothing hardly ever comes into play. Greens are mostly flat except for 9. As a public course meant to take a ton of rounds with plenty of hackers, it’s perfectly fine.
ETA: 12 is the only tough tee shot imo.

Played CM last week. Greens are shaggy but in good shape. Course was in fine condition. Finally starting to round into shape. $35 on the weekend is a steal.

I think it has a few interesting holes, specifically 2, 5, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, and 17. The back is better because there’s almost no houses on it which I like.

The PGA used to play the Louisiana Open at Webb Park.....long ago.

10 is probably the best hole they have out there. Love the center lined bunker.
To me, the fairways are a touch too wide in spots, I think they could bring them in a little more. I also think they've done a good job letting the natural grass grow in spots because it gives the holes more character. It works really well separating the first tee and the range.
But all in all, nothing about the golf course is overly memorable or impressive.
Now, don't get me wrong. I think it's perfect to achieve its goal and I wouldn't advocate changing it in a renovation or adding bunkers etc.

I don’t play much anymore, but I played Beaver Creek twice and honestly I can’t remember much about it other than the condition of the course really was impressive.
Having grown up playing Webb and to a lesser extent City, Howell and Dumas; I asked myself why couldn’t those courses have been in as good a shape as BC was.
I made sure I complimented the staff about how good the course was.
I’m glad to hear things haven’t changed.

I'm not deep in the agro scene, but I imagine it has to do with BC being built recently. I think there is something to that. I just don't think Webb has the same quality grass throughout the course. Even in plush spots at Webb, the fairways aren't nearly as good as BC's.
But I could be way off. You just don't see too many "older courses" that are in pristine condition or courses that weren't in good shape make a comeback without a big time investment and renovation into the type of grass they have out there.

Most if not all of the holes you mentioned have something around the tee-box to try and hide some of the hole, but when you get up there the fairways are huge and there's really no trouble. Not that its a bad thing, its perfect for public play to not take 6 hrs per round. It's just monotonous.

I try and remember way back when ( think late 60s) and Webb looked pretty good. But I can’t say it was as good as BC was when I played.
I have always thought they killed Webb when they trucked in all that fill from I10 construction and put it under the tree lines. Grass never grew in it and it all became hard pan.
And being no golf course expert I think you are probably right. BC was built right, is new, and with the right care it is a real gem.

quote:This was my point. I’m not really trying to be too critical because it has a purpose and it serves it well. It does have some small quirks like the shared green on 5 and 7 and the tee shots on 13 and 15 going through the trees. But other than that, it’s wide open golf with large, flat fairways and easy, flat greens. But that’s what you want to keep pace moving.

Have you been there lately. I played there Tuesday and it was in terrible shape. Greens are lost at this point again I feel.
