The last reports were that BREC was a couple or three years behind in their audits.

1/16/26 at 2:49 pm to doubleb Respectfully, you're unaware of how tax millages work
Very nicely done, but your assumption is wrong. I understand how it works.
Here’s the long story short:
The Library bowed to political pressure and agreed to reduce their tax millages to 8.3 mills. They said they’d have to do some trimming, but they could manage.
The Library Board also agreed to transfer a substantial amount of their cash nest egg to the Parish General Fund. I believe that number was 50 million dollars.
We all know the Thrive Plan failed. The voters turned it down. This left the Library with no funding; thus the new proposal.
Now few people want the Libraries closed, but a lot of people I know want our tax dollars to be rededicated before we vote for any new taxes; thus the notion that the Libraries could afford a haircut.
From my point of view the 8.3 mills they agreed to accept plus the Library keeping their surplus funds appears to be a very fair deal and would let them continue to provide a good service to the community while saving taxpayers some money.

Less than two months later, they’re back asking us to approve 9.5 mills in funding.
Plus they are keeping 50 million dollars in surplus that they said they could do without.
I hope Angele Davis is a difference maker.

It seems like this is a really classy event. The organizers should be proud of themselves. Things like this are what makes LSU special.

9.5 mills, I believe, is a good rate, it's less than we're paying now, and with 2 rollbacks over 10 years, it will come down to 8.4 - 8.5 (educated guess) by 2036.
You are making no sense. Why set the millage at 9.5 mills and hope they roll it back later? Let’s set it at 8.4 now and make the best library system we can based in that.m
Let’s quit building new libraries and maintain what we have now. We don’t need a library in every neighborhood.
No Rusdian breakthrough? Surprise, surprise.

Key Takeaways
Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to demonstrate that he will not be satisfied with a peace settlement that only pertains to Ukraine and does not radically restructure NATO.
The Kremlin continues to forward the false narrative that Ukraine’s defenses are on the verge of collapse, but data on Russian gains since the start of the full-scale invasion demonstrate otherwise.
Russian General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov continues to offer demonstrable lies and exaggerations about Russian battlefield gains to forward the Kremlin’s false narrative that a Russian military victory is inevitable.
The Russian military command remains committed to its false claims that Russian forces have seized Kupyansk, despite ample visual evidence and Ukrainian and Russian reporting to the contrary.
Gerasimov’s January 15 claims are part of a demonstrated Kremlin pattern of publicly presenting false information about the battlefield. These Kremlin efforts aim to spread the false narrative that a Russian victory in Ukraine is inevitable and to convince Ukraine and the West that Ukraine should accept Russia’s demands now out of fear of future Russian offensives.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Slovyansk, and in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area. Russian forces recently advanced near Pokrovsk.

If you were interested in the war you wouldn’t nit pick pro Ukrainian posters ad nauseum every day. You bring rrr Ed ports, facts, insights of your own.
And you’d be interested in what Putin is doing because your friends and relatives might hzve to serve if he had his way in areas around the globe. In reality the fact that you think Zelensky is the danger and not Putin is surprising to me.
Referees were slightly favoring Ky, but we had plenty of chances and our guys didn’t take advantage of them.
We gave Ky one last chance and they executed their play perfectly, give them credit.

What about an “infiltration event” where they never leave? See, e.g. Hulyaipole.
Certainly an infiltration event can eventually lead to an advance, but we know that every infiltration event doesn’t result in an advance.

"Everyone who doesn't see the world exactly as I do has an agenda"
His agenda is to prove Russia is about to make a decisive breakthrough. He uses ISW to do that and provides his own analysis.
On the other hand your agenda is to b Ed the wingman and seek to engage in banter with pro Ukraine posters. You repeatedly do that.
Why?
quote:
ISW is a pro-Ukraine advocacy group. So they say things like no “confirmed advances” while reporting a Russian “infiltration event” on 1/14 on the map I posted. That way, Russia isn’t “advancing.” But it is. That’s why you shouldnt trust the narratives ISW puts out, but you can somewhat trust their maps because they can’t totally destroy their credibility by lying on the maps and embarrassingly having to backtrack
I didn’t know that, we can only use ISW as a source when it suits your agenda.
And I wouldn’t call an infiltration event as advancing, but that’s me.

No, but I haven’t seen many peace deals that we quit fighting and there are no other provisions.

RUSSIA & UKRAINE UKRAINE RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE CAMPAIGN ASSESSMENT Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, January 14, 2026 JANUARY 14, 2026 Toplines Russian advances slowed in late December 2025 and early January 2026, likely due to less advantageous winter weather conditions and the end of efforts to meet arbitrary deadlines at the end of the year.

They aren't making long term decisions based on a season that comes every single year and slows everything down
Some in this thread have alluded to imminent breakthroughs. Some have indicated the trends are for Russia to keep advancing at a higher level. That isn’t what’s happening.

Compromising what? Agreeing that they don't have land they don't control? It's not like they are going to agree to actually recognize the land as Russian land.
Agreeing to stopping their attacks and letting Russia alone. That is a compromise, right?

If Ukraine is doing as well as some of you say they are, why would he want a peace deal given the current conditions it would take to get Russia to accept?
The current trend indicates Russia is stalling out. Their offense has stopped. They are hunkering down for the Winter.
Meanwhile Ukraine and sanctions are hurting the Russian economy, and Russia is punishing Ukraine’s infrastructure.
There is no collapse or imminent breakthroughs on the front lines.
Ukraine likely wants a deal that includes NATO type guarantees in exchange for giving up (for now) areas Russia has taken. Russia isn’t going to accept that, but from where I sit, Ukraine is compromising, but needs guarantees and Russia wants a deal similar to Vietnam where they intend to fight later in after Ukraine is left alone.

Key Takeaways
Russian advances slowed in late December 2025 and early January 2026, likely due to less advantageous winter weather conditions and the end of efforts to meet arbitrary deadlines at the end of the year.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that Russia’s objectives in Ukraine go beyond the territory that is currently under discussion in the latest peace plans to include all of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Odesa oblasts. Kremlin officials continue to insist that the United States, Ukraine, and Europe accept Russian demands, rejecting recent US-led peace efforts to find compromises to end the war.
Russian forces are continuing their cognitive warfare campaign that uses small-scale cross-border attacks in previously dormant frontline areas in northern Ukraine to try to convince the West that the frontlines in Ukraine are collapsing.
Russian forces have still not set conditions for a major ground offensive in northern Sumy or Kharkiv oblasts, however, and ISW continues to assess that these cross-border attacks are not part of a major Russian offensive.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov highlighted Russia’s partnerships with Venezuela and Iran on January 14 while criticizing the Trump Administration’s recent actions in Venezuela.
The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada approved several personnel changes within the Ukrainian government on January 14.
Polish officials reported that Russia conducted cyberattacks against the Polish energy grid in late December 2025.
Neither Russian nor Ukrainian forces made confirmed advances on January 14.

They will be getting a no vote from me for the first time. They are over funded. According to a recent Press Club interview with Mary Stein, the library spends $700,000 a year on ADVERTISING. That amounts to 1.3% of their operating budget. I think they can survive with less money.
They have to help their friends in the media.
Remember, every govt. agency is dedicated to spending all they get every year.

There’s no rush.
Start planning now, but we don’t need an interim coach. That doesn’t work.

The library system is great but incredibly overfunded.
Yes it is. They admit that, but since they shine in an underachieving parish, some believe they should go unscathed.
They need a healthy budget to operate, a nest egg for maintenance and that’s it. We don’t need more libraries.
