I usually defend Brandel

Why?

It's very rare that he has a defensible take. Even when he does, his delivery is so douchey that he almost makes me want to reconsider my opinion on the matter.

Meh, being great at golf is not a requirement for Brandel's job. No one has the golf knowledge he has. The guy can remember shots from players even that player doesn't remember.

From Riggs at Barstool
quote:

Phil Mickelson's worst press conference I can ever remember. He looked uncomfortable, sounded defensive, and said basically nothing. He looked like an extremely embarrassed guy trying not to seem embarrassed. Yikes. :

Did anyone watch it?

And he’s lost all credibility with his complete one-sided bashing of Phil and any player that left for LIV. Brandel used to speak about the players and their golf swings as an objective neutral observer. He’s far too personally invested in this topic. He’s gone off the rails.

Basically, he’s become exactly like the screeching media that attacks anything on one side of the political aisle while blindly supporting and making excuses for the other side. Brandel has gone far off the ledge of what we want from a golf analyst. He’s got LIVDS.

Just finished the Phil PC. Woof. That was rough. The beard doesn’t help, but he just looks broken and defeated. That Phil spark was completely gone

He looks like a different person.

That was kind of brutal.

He 100% knew that they were going to try and give “gotcha” questions. He had to just go out there, make a few statements, and then get back to practice. He’s got that over with now.

What a bunch of pantywaste these journalists are clinging to that 9-11 narrative. Maybe Phil should have said, “yes, but they helped us out during the Gulf War so thumbs up for that.”

Can’t they just go research some kind of racist history about The Country Club in Brookline and write a story about that? That’s about all they are trained to due in the media now anyway.

Basically every single question was a "gotcha" question.

He can't just get up there and say "yeah I'm doing this because of the money." Well, he could. But the media would bury him for it. It's a lose/lose. He delicately answered their questions with basically nothing of any substance. There was never a different way this was going to go.

He could have done what DJ did and basically said he’s not talking to the media.

I thought his answers were fine. He just looked completely defeated and changed.

ETA: I think you can also tell the 9/11 family shite got to him. It’s one thing to hear it from sanctimonious media, but the largest support group of surviving family members writing you personally hits different

DJ's presser last week with the SkyNews reporter was so symbolic of how out of touch journalists are. They are such idiots. The guy couldn't believe that DJ would want more money to play less golf

His response: "Ya, that was the entire point" as he's laughing in the guys face.

The Saudi angle is hilarious as our administration is literally about to visit Salman to beg him to increase productive capacity they don't have. Quite the condundrum for hacks in the media

Right, exactly. So the pro golfers are outright telling you the entire point is to play less golf, yet people that say the love watching golf is excited about it? That’s just as strange

Who wouldn’t want to get paid more to do less work and spend more time having other experiences? Football players and basketball players don’t play or work most of the year. Baseball has the shortest off time, but they get paid millions more because of players unions and negotiating. Golfers never really had that option till now and the tour is crying about it and deflecting from their own problems. Putting your head in the sand isn’t going to fix the inherent problems.

Of course tbey would

But for the people that watch those people play for entertainment, why in the frick would you be cheering for them to play less?
