Low, spinning 60 degree wedge

I'm getting back into the game after nearly decade away and am wanting to add the low one hop and stop bullet on appropriate shots. I have it down about 75% of shots but still am throwing some shots way too high or blading others. I don't know how to explain my swing thought other than I'm trying to let the bounce of my Mack Daddy do the work of helping me clip it right the highest portion of that's touching the fairway. My swing almost feels like I'm hitting a low hook under some trees. Are there any thoughts can y'all add to help me with finding better consistency?

How far back are you taking the club? On a 50-60 yard shot i only go 1/4 for 50 and slightly more for 60 and accelerate on the downswing.
Watch some mickelson vids on YouTube on flops, lobs, chipping and the short game.

I keep my stance narrow (to keep from overswinging) with 60% on my left foot & gripped higher on the club to keep from getting too steep. I've been using it on 40-60 yard shots so my hands are anywhere from 2 to 3 o'clock in my backswing.

Good video on hitting that shot
That was a video I watched a couple weeks ago that got me dialed into better hitting that shot. I'm selective with the videos I was since I'm more of a feel player over getting too technical. This broke it down simply enough for me to apply, however.

If you're more than a 2 or 3 handicap you need to worry more about good contact and getting the ball on the green every time

I was a 5 when I was playing a good bit about 10 years ago. I've lost tons of length and ability to work the ball simply from getting away from the game for that long. However, that will come back with practice. I feel that being able to dial in these shots as I get back into it will pay off immediately.

Maybe im just trash, but why would you want to use a 60 degree on a 50 yard shot? Seems like it would be way easier just to half swing a 54 or PW?

It's easier to control your distances. The whole point of using a 60 at this distance, 40 to 60 yards for me, is attacking a hole location in the middle or back of the green that allows it to check up near the hole. A 54 or 56 could be used in the same manner but just on a longer shot. This shot really emphasizes accelerating through impact to create the spin you want. Your distance are much easier to control versus just lobbying it up there.

I’ve practiced it a couple times and it usually works for what you’re describing, but try taking the club back and getting a good hinged wrist set, and then hold that hinge through the shot while you swing with your body. You will definitely take a divot though

The only way I know to do a low hop is to put the ball towards the back of your stance. I’ve only used a 50, 54 or 56 never a 60.

TXG Lesson
I just watched this one. The instructor really gives the swing theory behind the shot in this video.

This is also a really good insta video put up by Mike bender the other day on this exact wedge shot. If you don’t follow him I highly suggest it. He’s one of the best instructors out there that puts content online. His videos have helped me out a lot over the last year or so.

I watched a TXG wedge video that has changed my life.
The lefty guy gets a lesson from a short game guru and they increase his spine rates from ~80 yards and in by a TON. More than double.
I can’t find the video but the big takeaways were shorting your backswing considerably and being MUCH more aggressive and the downswing and through impact.
Pretty much neutral ball position and hands, and use your body to rotate aggressively through impact instead of using mostly arms. I’m getting better at it every time I play and it instantly improved my short wedge game.
Friends comment on it every time we play because I’ve never had these shots before. Now I’m mostly figuring out distance control with it as I get more comfortable taking aggressive swings from short distances.

I feel this is key as well. I've never been a fan of the school of thought that you take it back and follow through equally. That leads to decels. Make a short backswing with an aggressive move and follow through.

I do the same thing. Green side-70 yards I use a 54. 85 yards it’s a 50. 100 yards I use a pw
It comes in low and spins.

I started doing this with my putter and it helps a lot
