When they are really running what all of us would consider lightening fast I would say probably 10-10.5 max
I would call that speed a decent pace maybe

public courses don't normally cater to the low handicap golfer. I want rounds/revenue generation. It does no good to have a 20 handicap golfer playing a 6 hour round on greens that are rolling a 12.
Bingo

10....anything faster than that can make greens have very few usable pin placements unless it’s a newer course with really large greens.
Is good for standard public courses to achieve with a true putting surface, but most of your private courses and better semi private’s are usually running 11-12 consistently.

100% agree.

I would agree with that. "All of us" was a poor choice of words. Your weekend BREC warriors will think that 10 is like putting on glass. Country club members are accustomed to 10-12 as normal playing range.

I stimp my greens everyday, but I keep that shite to myself.
9-10 is totally fine for a daily fee facility.
I did a club really dirty in Houston. Member-Guest Weekend..I turned the irrigation off on Wednesday, Sunday morning they were rolling a 13. Plus I rolled the meat and potatoes of the green about 6x near all the cups.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching frustrated golfers that day.

Typical PGA courses typically run around a 12 under tournament conditions. I don't think many of your private or semiprivate courses do. Especially not down here when they would get burnt up in a hurry. You obviously have some of your bigger and better courses getting that fast but I think people usually tend to overrate the speeds.

They do, and they don’t get burnt out when you have a good super who has a somewhat endless budget to work with along with the manpower to keep a course in tip top shape, there are a few in this state who produce those conditions consistently for the most part during prime golf season.

The only two I can think of would be Oakbourne and Squire. Who else would you say?

Just curious, Why do you keep that to yourself?

prob because the more the general public or members know the more they fuss about

I dont see why they would fuss, I would much rather fast greens than slow ones.

There are some people that will fuss about anything, even if it's just to fuss.

I play a course that has a PGA tournament. Per the head grounds keeper, the PGA wants consistency across the tournaments and an 11 is ideal with a 12 max. In this months newsletter he talked about speed and why we can't keep it all year. But he also said that for our two big club tournaments (3 day events) he starts the first day between an 11 and 12 and has had them as fast as a 14 on the third day. Not only are they fast, he puts the pins in places that the PGA would never allow for a tournament.
There is nothing like having a 4-footer downhill and placing your putter an inch behind the ball, picking it up and letting gravity do its thing to have the ball lip out and have 10 feet coming back.
