And back to front on the left side. The point was never to creat a hole that couldn’t hold a ball from outside of 170 yards when it’s meant to play 170+ from the gold and blacks. It was meant to be difficult but now it’s more of a gimmick.

7 was a decent 4 kind of plain.
8 was a 3 that could play long depending on the tee you played.
9 was not a long hole, but it had a severe dog leg right. It was a risk/reward finish to the front 9.
You must have lived in Vicksburg?

I always enjoy #13 at Greystone with buddies who have never played out there before. They're oblivious on the tee lol

No. Just imagine a 7-9 year old. The most I have in my is 3, maybe 4 holes. the 3 hole loop from 7-9 was perfect.
1 was just memorable because it was always a struggle to get it over the water as a kid on the second shot. Looking back as an adult, I'm not sure the water would ever come into play other than off the tee if you were long.

Are you sure it was 7-9?
Those three holes didn’t have water.
1 did

Yea. 1. That's why it was memorable.

Never could putt on that green or for the most part most of the greens there. They were really grainy.
It was a nice layout with good fairways but the greens were not very good.

Was Webb 1976 a par three along the road?

I haven’t played all of these holes, but The Island has a couple more that should be on any best 18 list.
Hole 2 is one of my favorite Par-5’s anywhere.
Hole 11 is a crazy good par-4

Whoops, sorry about that. Number 7 at Webb.

Also, is Woody Dumas/Evergreen still a working course in Baker?

No number 7 is a par 5
You’d hit out of a chute into a wide fairway but there were large trees jutting out making anything a little left dead.
Then the fairway bent to the left to a green next to College Drive. That green was protected by two traps and was the best green on the course.

Did they switch the 9’s at greystone? I haven’t played since moving to Lake Charles, but I remember 13 being a long par 3.

Yeah #13 is a long par 3 with a tiered green. If the pin is back and you've never played it, you can't see the drop-off from front to back

There are some challenging holes at The Island where you better be able to hit it where you are aiming. 2, 10 and 11 are prime examples. There's nowhere to bail out on those holes.
I like 18 there a lot too.

This is why I like the Island. The layout is punishing if you cant put it where it needs to be.

I played there years ago when it was kind of new and never went back,
I thought they built an 18 hole course on 16-1/2 holes of property.

Island is odd.. It usually feels pretty tough but I always shoot my best scores there.
