I’ve been inactive lately with how busy work has been. Hope your knee is ok.

Someone give me cliff's notes. I do all of my leg days with heavy dumbbells. Between bulging discs in my neck and back, I'm probably never putting a barbell across my shoulders again. Can I sub out DBs and follow along?

Follow pen and paper strength app on instagram, the workouts are posted a day ahead of time on the IG feed, there's also "instructions" and a help guide on the main profile page if you feel lost. Or ask questions here. I'm a big advocate of modification for personal needs whether it be equipment, location, health/injury, so usually I would say just modify the program to fit yours needs but with what you say about your back....I'm rather tempted to say stay away from Squatober.

On the other hand it's a free to follow monthly event, I won't call it a "program" as it's not one IMO, but it's kinda fun to do. No one is gonna hold a gun to your head and make you follow the posted workouts to the T. If 5 days a week is too much, just do 3, or whatever. No barbell, then use dumbbells, etc. Hate that exercise or cant' do it? Change it to another one. I think it's mostly about having fun, having the feeling that you are taking on this challenge along with other people, and pushing yourself hard, but it's mostly for fun.

I've never actually done the entire month of Squatober. Something always comes up to disrupt the schedule, but it's not boring, it is challenging, and it is fun.....until it isn't.

ETA: Helpful Links
PPSA IG - @penandpaperstrengthapp - follow this profile for the daily workouts during October.
Sorinex Squatober IG - @sorinex_squatober - The "Tips" and "FAQ" for Squatober are actually in here, the "HELP" link on the PPSA IG page is general helpful info for ....ugghh...just training in general.
Squatober website for merch - Sorinex Squatober

Those are the big ones, someone else may know some other good follows on IG for Squatober.

AND I will break it this year! I can't say what day it will be, but I will know as soon as the workout is posted and then I will make plans for an epic session, multiple pies (pizza and pumpkin) will be cooked and consumed, costumes, candy, jack-o-lantern carving, classic Halloween movie screening.

This year....will not be like last year, not in the bad ways. The schedule is cleared. Brace Yourself...It's Coming is being completed as prep, calories will be in a surplus, no distractions! Check in for QUAD measurements is 1800 on 9/30 sharp! I will have the Squatober I deserve, not the one I am given!

If we all lived closer together then we could have a knee bending party to kick this thing off.

I agree with what you said in the other post, though. This year, I'm going to alter a few of the workouts. I always frick myself up on the timed AMRAP. As soon as I get tired, my form goes to shite and then I hurt myself.

I'm just not going to do it. I've got my form cleaned up and squats are feeling good again. I'm not going to FAFO this time.

Same. The AMRAPS always seem to get shitty at the end.

Last year I felt we lifted heavy way more frequently than the year before, which was my first year. So this year I have no idea what to expect.

I'm bowing out. I'm old and have an elk, mule deer, and bear hunt the last week of October. Not risking injury.

Thanks, that definitely helps. My neck and back are in good shape now. Neither were particularly bad, and a round of Physical Therapy got both of them taken care of without needing surgery. They told me to avoid running for a while, and not to do anything with a bar on my back, but using dumbbells in my hands or resistance bands were fine. The thought being you can always drop a dumbbell but if you get off balance with a barbell it might injure it. They said weights would actually be great overall, just to not lift heavy doing squats if I wanted to use barbells. I just don't want to risk it, but I actually like doing leg day.

Running "Let's Pregame" before this year's Squatober, not a bad workout at all and is very easy on time.

Damn man! I'm trying to convince the guys at my gym to participate too, but none want to.

I want to go on a big hunt like that one day. Maybe next year.
