Competing in my first Spartan ultra 50K race this Saturday in South Carolina at the ripe age of 31.
Achieved the trifecta (5K, 10K, 21K) last year and wanted to set a goal I didn’t think was possible. Been going through a lot personally the past few months and training for this has been therapeutic.
“When’s the last time you did something for the first time?”

Ran a 5k this summer my first race ever at the age of 48. Never was a big runner but ran 3-5 miles 3-5 times a week when I was HS/college age.
Ran a 13.5 mile long run a couple of months ago just to do it and plan on running a half marathon race in January then find a full to run in the summer when I can really train for it.
Not sure what’s after that but just having goal has been huge in making me train/diet so I plan to keep finding goals to work towards my long term goal of quality of life not just long life.

Haven’t done a spartan in awhile but I do the One World K9 Biathlon in Anniston, AL regularly. It’s a 4-5 mile race (with your dog) through 50 obstacles, including drainage tunnels.

Ran my first Cirque Series race last year (roughly 7 miles, elevation gain 3,400’). It was insanely difficult. I trained for it and raced again this year. Beat last year’s time by 46 minutes.
I almost went for a 2nd race simply because of the training (it really is therapeutic).

Ran my first Spartan Super quite a few years ago. Really enjoyed it. Thinking about doing my first Trifecta in 2025.

Trifecta weekend or trifecta throughout the year?
Thinking about doing the trifecta weekend in Houston in March.

That’s awesome. What kind of dog do you have and how old?

I have a male German shepherd (Czech lines) who is 7.5 now and he will be retired from doing the race.
My female Belgian Mal will be 2 in February, she ran it with my wife last year and was all my wife could handle lol so I’ll be running with my Mal in May when the race comes.
It’s a legit festival race too. You camp out on the grounds and there’s free beer and live music. Great time.

Trifecta during the year. Haha not that beastly yet for a Trifecta weekend.

Completed my first Spartan ultra over the weekend. Absolutely brutal. Ankles wrecked, body sore as hell, but I finished right under 11 hrs.
In transition at 4.5 hrs but second lap took a toll on my body. I’m not much of a runner and the distance took a toll on me.
