In the Iron Man, there are staff that rip it off your body at you're exiting the swim.

Yeah, I should’ve used them. But I only had a mid thigh sleeveless wetsuit and didn’t think I needed any help. My transition to the bike was longer than it should’ve been.

Congrats!

I've done a couple of half marathons and would love to challenge myself to a tri. Thinking about a sprint tri to start.

Was this your first tri? What was your fitness level before training?

I did one Sprint Tri in preparation, just to get used to the transitions.
I’ve been doing CrossFit for years. So I’d say my fitness level was above average for someone who is over 45. I started “training” back in August. I was about 260 and I dropped to about 240. I was aiming for 220. I hit the pool at the Y pretty hard because I knew that’d be my weakest activity. I joined a Tri group in Huntsville and started doing semi weekly rides with them. I also did my only open water swim with them a couple of weeks ago. I never ran more than six miles at a time, so the run really did me in. I knew the run was going to be a killer, so I didn’t emphasize that as much in my training.

No such thing!

I swim like a lead weight, coming in at the end of the pack every single time. But then I smoke everyone on the cycling leg.
