Having some neck stiffness issues

Has anyone experienced a stiff, sore neck from bench pressing?
I think I’m tensing hard and actually pushing against the bench with my head and neck.
Would it be bad to roll my head slightly forward during bench?
I’ve also seen someone mention hanging your head off the back of the bench.

Yes.
I broke my collar bone about 17 years ago and have had neck issues ever since. Typically, it only affects my ability to shoulder press, but two weeks ago I was benching and my neck tightened up to the point I couldn't turn my head for about 10 days.
It fricking sucked.
However, it was totally avoidable. I should have stopped my workout once I felt that initial tightness, but I didn't. I kept going for about another 45 minutes and I paid for it.
Don't know about the different techniques you listed, but my advice would be to stop lifting once you feel that stiffness and rest for a couple days.
