I have a close family member who just seems plagued by gut issues, almost no matter what is attempted. There's been some success in the past with elimination diets, but things always seem to revert. After the litany of doctors, naturopaths, etc. I'd like to try the tack of just locating a top practitioner anywhere in the country and paying through the nose if need be to just get it right. Any advice?

Related: opinions welcome on going full carnivore for a period of time. Worth trying? How long? Is that literally just red meat and water or can you have mono-gastric animals as well + salt?

TIA. Super frustrating.

Have they tried the Vertical Diet?

From what I can tell by listening to him, Efferding seems to have arrived at a diet that is healthy (judged by bio markers), easily sustainable, and easy on the gut for people who have a history of GI issues.
I’m new to it myself, so not the ultimate judge, but the gut aspect of it is what really sold me on it.

Mind me asking the symptoms?

Have they cut out dairy products? Artificial sweeteners? Processed foods?

Damn, man, that fricking sucks. Sorry to hear that for you and your wife. Sounds like you are a great partner to her, though.

Fortunately, this situation doesn't sound nearly as extreme.

One direct question:

she has started drinking a green probiotic drink in addition to her yogurt.
Did your wife have a formal micro-biome analysis done to determine exactly which microbes she needed re-introduced to her gut? Because I've heard that, in general, probiotics are a scam because there is no one size fits all AND some of them can be damaging.

Irregularities, distended/bloating, tired, acid reflux, nausea, gurgling, feeling like a brick in stomach, indigestion. Pain in the traditional sense is less of an issue than just a lot of internal discomfort/uneasy -just not feeling right and life impairment and embarrassment.

I have no idea if probiotics are a scam. What I know is this stuff works and I'd be willing to fork over 1/3 of my take home pay for it to keep working. I'm not going to question a thing about it. Maybe it's placebo? Either way, I don't care. She isn't sick nearly as much since she started drinking it, so that's a W.
Can you tell me which product it is?

Sounds like a lot of the symptoms that I was having, honestly since getting on TRT & changing up my eating habits. Between my hormones being totally out of whack, and from eating no dairy at all to eating Greek Yogurt & eating Quest bars throughout the day...my stomach was bad off. I'd changed from a high fiber diet (50/ 60 grams a day) to hardly any fiber, and all protein.

I felt bloated constantly, was not regular, had acid reflux...but for me, I think the distended stomach was the worst of it. As soon as I ate, my stomach blew up - didn't matter what I'd eaten.

This went on for a little over four months. The doctors just kept telling me that I was constipated, but I felt it was more than that. I got off of TRT, backed off of fiber for a bit (this can basically just add fuel to the fire), and ate chicken & eggs. I was worried enough to have a colonoscopy done. They found nothing.

I workout/ lift for at least an hour a day. I tried everything from Miralax, Linzess, Magnesium Citrate, upped my water intake, ect. I take Garden of Life probiotics daily. The best thing I found that worked for me, and still does is Nature's Secret Multi-Herb Super Cleanse. I'll stay on this for a week or two, then take a break. I get it from Sprouts.

I'm still trying to figure out what's triggering the distended stomach/ bloating. I'm slowly re-introducing fibers, and I've cut out all dairy & processed foods with Sucralose, Erythitol, Xantham Gum, and other artificial sweeteners. I ordered samples packs of Vegan Protein and Whey Protein from PEScience...I feel WAY better on the Vegan protein. So, leaning on this being some new intolerance to milk products.

I know this is long AF, but I know how absolutely miserable of a feeling it is - I highly recommend checking out that colon cleanse. Hopefully she gets some relief soon.
