Some natural ways to increase dopamine

These are all scientifically proven to increase dopamine without drugs.
Good sleep.
Morning sunlight in your eyes, not through a window. Gotta go outside. 10 minutes a day.
Deliberate cold exposure. 10 minutes a week in cold water up to your neck. Doesn’t have to be ice cold, just uncomfortably cold.
10-15 minutes of yoga nidra. Also called NSDR, it’s pretty much a guided body scan. Lots of them on Spotify and YouTube.
Eating foods high in tyrosine. Cheese, chicken, eggs, lots of easy stuff.
If you’re cutting back on alcohol or quitting nicotine, these can help with depression without taking anything.

Somebody’s been listening to huberman. How would I know if dopamine is too low, and not a symptom of something else? Can it be too high? How do I know that the brain is not just trying to maintain homeostasis and reduced dopamine receptors because dopamine is chronically too high. Is dopamine fasting effective? Cold plunge is hyped because of reports of 250% increase in dopamine, but what does that compare to just regular exercise?
Methamphetamine releases, the most dopamine of any drug! ADHD, some say, is a disease of dopamine deficiency and people with ADHD are more likely to seek out activities that release dopamine, like substance abuse.

Lack of motivation to do anything, including eating.

Can it be too high?
Yes that’s called mania.

Is dopamine fasting effective?
It can be if you do it for 30 days, but not for everything at the same time. Like a 30 day break from alcohol or a 30 day break from social media.

I don’t know, but 10 minutes per week of cold is a lot easier than regular exercise.

Ok, and? Not sure what you’re getting at with this paragraph.

It all just seems like pop science speculation, it’s hard to separate fact from fiction. Yes it’s good to exercise, and avoid destructive behaviors but dopamine is involved in 100s of bodily functions and can’t typically be decreased by changing behavior. Dopamine fast can create maladaptive habits. I mean people are not looking others in the eyes to try to save up their dopamine. Drs aren't checking levels of dopamine to see if they are low or high, and low dopamine is not a medical diagnosis.
The dopamine increase in the study was elevated for just 2 hrs. I didn’t mean regular daily exercise, just any typical form of exercise. Jogging on the treadmill also increases dopamine.
The adhd factoid is just interesting, and an example of real dopamine disregulation.
It’s good to question these Huberman types. They embellish some studies, and I have seen him conflate two different studies, and then make prescriptions based on that conflation.

You misquoted the study to make a point. I don’t think you’re getting it.

That’s simply wrong.

Huberman says 200 milligrams of caffeine an hour before CT in water 56 degrees up to your neck for 11 minutes. Increases dopamine up to 600%. Extreme focus and attention to detail. if you don't shiver you developed brown fat which is good for your metabolism. If you do shiver you lose calories. Win/Win.
