Hydroponic strawberries

So I tried growing strawberries hydroponically two yrs ago. I got my plugs in Pontchatoula, and planted them in late October.
My timer was set at 30 min on and 30 min off, and I think I drowned the plants by the first week of December. Am I correct that they drowned due to overwatering? There were no signs of disease and definitely not over fertilized.
Just trying to get suggestions on trying again this year. Should I plant a little later than if it were in soil? Or Do the same thing again, but water less?
Anyone have advice or suggestions?
I’ve grown hydroponic strawberrries before but those were a different variety and I got them online. Planted in March and had an awesome crop till my water temp hit 90F, at which the plants died almost overnight. Still tho, an excellent harvest for several weeks.

Do them inside with a grow light. The temps we keep inside are perfect for strawberries.
I don't think I will ever try them outside again, at least not in 9b.

Growing inside won’t be an option for me. I will talk to the people at the feed store in pontchatoula and try adapting what they say to hydroponics. The plugs are pretty cheap. I’ll figure it out eventually lol.
This was my first failure at growing anything hydroponically, so it’s eating at me to get it right.
