And I always find it insanely retarded that people think a head coaches job is to push a kid to LSU. A trusted HC should help the kid find a school that offers him the best opportunity to succeed as a whole. More times than not, that will be the instate school and for all the obvious reasons. However, the home state school isn't always the best option. I'll use a past example. Gary Crowton. Couldn't develop a QB. Gary has had a meteoric implosion since leaving LSU. If I had a son that was a D-1 QB during Crowton's tenure, there is no amount of bullshite you could supply me that would make me believe the best fit for my son would be to learn under him and I wouldn't stand for my son's high school coach blindly pushing him to LSU.
Having said all that...there is very little evidence you could supply me that would change my mind that LSU isn't the best option for Dupre.

Dupre taking OV to Ole Miss this week.

excuse me if this has already been stated on here, but I didn't seem it
Do these guys from Curtis not have to be in school right now? Both Malachi Dupre and Kenny Young are on official visits during the week. Is this normal for top recruits to miss school to go on these visits?

quote:Yes, really a Great kid I coached in Kenner. A few months back I asked him and Jonathan why they didn't go to LSU and they gave almost the exact same answer. They really never thought about LSU, never considered them at all. Our reputation was much different then. Didn't have anything bad to say about LSU, just really never gave them a thought.

Every high school kid gets to take x amount of days off to visit college campuses, depending on school/district. They are excused absences.

Well it doesn't help when your OWN fans in state talk about how much LSU sucks, miles sucks etc...
I guarantee you, that plays a part.
You are absolutely correct. Perception is the main driving force behind Bama's rise of late. It started with their so called recruiting NCs which were obviously faked but now that the perception is in place along with Saban's insane work ethic, perception has turned into reality.
On a side note, I will never fault a recruit from La for going to schools like FSU or UCLA because they are the best places for a young man to expand his comfort zone and explore the rest of the country. I remember having that bug big time and I got my fill by working across the nation many times over. Eventually, I came back to La because I wanted to but the experiemces that I had out of state are the reason why I view La like I do today. I needed that experience just like a few of the top La recruits might need it.
On the same note, any kid that goes to Bama or any of our other nearby rivals such as Fla are forever dead to me since they are definitely giving the finger to LSU and everyone who is a fan of LSU who has supported them throughout their HS careers, etc. After football, they will never be as successful in this state as if they would have been Tigers and that is the way that it should be.
As for MD, I will be happy for him whether or not he choses LSU because he will be doing something that I can understand and respect for a guy his age. He will be seeing the rest of the country. On the other hand, he could definately come to LSU and get the same benefits as he would get form the other schools (NFL High round draft). Because of this, I want to see him coming to LSU. If the offense would have struggled again, then I would simply not expect him to stay in state but now that CCC is here, we have a chance for him and I hope that he sees that.
The staff has made their case by now and Chi knows where he is going at this point. Recruiting is an extremely tough biz and stories like A+M using Shep as an example of why not to go to LSU shows us this clearly. Since I don't see any more receivers getting offers in this class,, I guess that I feel good about him because he seems like the type to be honest with the coaches. I wish him the best even if he goes to FSU or UCLA.
