but he better learn how to make free throws, No he doesn't, he's a dominate player against any team in the US. Free throws would just make him skip college.

You think he'll dominate in college?

Kentucky is now recruiting Gathers:

zagsblog

quote:

The 6-foot-8 Gathers decommitted from St. John’s, but head coach Steve Lavin watched him several times at the recent City of Palms Classic. Lavin told SNY.tv he plans to sign five players in the spring signing period.

Gathers on St. John’s assistant Tony Chiles watching him at City of Palms: “That means a lot, man…They playing right now, to be exact. To see that he’s here, he’s still interested that’s pretty big.”
On Duke and Kentucky: “I feel like they programs. Day in and day out, you know they’re always going to be a Top 10 team. They’re always going to develop players. You’re always going to see somebody coming out of those types of programs….I’m a championship type dude. I want to win. I ain’t just trying to be there.”

On John Calipari: ”He one of them dudes that gets you ready and gets you out.”

On playing with Archie Goodwin at UK: “I’ve been talking to my boy Archie Goodwin and we’re kind of trying to work something out.”

On Duke: “One thing they got, they got bigs. They got the Plumlee brother. I like what they’re doing with them. They’re utilizing them.”

On Baylor: “They in need of a four man. Q[uincy] Acy gonna be gone.”

On LSU: “They stepping it up. You know, that’s hometown.”

On Florida: “They’re in the same situation as Baylor.”

With all these big time programs stepping up on Gathers, it's going to be one hell of a recruiting job if LSU secure this guy.

I think it's interesting that he mentions Baylor's need of a 4-man, when it has been said that he wants to play the 3.

I can see him end up being a Carl Landry type player if he grow a couple more inches and play the 4.

I knew he'd get a lot of offers but I never thought he'd get this much attention from the big programs. It's going to be very hard to get him to come to LSU IMO.

Either way he comes in and starts for us I hope.

Worst case he's getting a lot of minutes considering we lose Storm Warren (18.7 MPG) and Malcolm White (11.3 MPG) in the front court. He fits in perfect for a big lineup for us with Hickey, Turner, Gathers, O'Bryant and Hamilton...holy cow, just realized how good of a lineup that is. Definitely SEC caliber players all over there.

I agree he could be the missing piece to making the tournament with this team. But it will be hard to keep him from going to UK or duke

Agree, going to be so damn tough keeping him away from the big schools in bball. But, if Trent wants to keep his job, assuming he makes it the rest of the way this year, he NEEDS to get Gathers.

Anyone believe that Gather's commitment may be linked to a walk-on position by Dabney?

I've heard this a few times now. Don't know the reliability of the sources but they both said that Dabney has a real shot of walking on at LSU.

Why couldn't he walk on? If Tulane doesn't release him he should be able to walk on.

Hey would be huge picked as a walk on, I think Lsu needs to add 2 more guys who can score off the dribble from different positions to help close games out.

I dunno why he's saying Baylor will need someone at the four. As inconsistent as Perry Jones has been, he may slip and be forced to come back yet again. Quincy Miller isn't a sure fire goner either. Both of those guys may return at the 3 and 4. Plus Isaiah Austin will slide in where Acy is in the middle of the zone down low. I dunno. Of course, there's a solid chance both Miller and Jones leave, but Baylor is pretty loaded in the front court. Gathers is a great player, but he will have his work cut out for him to even crack the starting line up at Baylor if Jones and Miller return.
