Yeah, that's good. Just one question. How many TCU receivers are playing in the NFL vs. number of LSU receivers? Answer: LSU 7, TCU 2.

Not denying that - and they rightly should. LSU has been getting "Top Talent" at the position for far longer than TCU has. Just how much better has LSU been at converting Top Talent?

quote:

The gap between LSU vs TCU WRs in the NFL will increase more in the the next few years as well.

You would think... but will it happen?

I am an insomniac and love this sorta thing - So here we go...

For this comparison - We will will have to exclude Bowe and LaFell (haven't forgotten Doucet n Davis, either) because ESPN's recruiting class archive only goes back to 2006.

So Recruiting Classes 2006-2011:

LSU

LSU WRs in the NFL: 5 (plus KR Trindon Holliday I think should be considered a RB)
LSU WRs made NFL camp/ no reg season snaps: 2 - T.Tolliver (HOU/CHI now CFL), Boone (PHI)

Produced from the following recruits...
LSU WRs signed: 20 17wr/3ath
LSU WRs with 80+ grade: 10 (inc ATH R.Shep)
LSU WRs #1 WR/Ath: 3 (4 more Top 20)
7 Top 20 talents = 3 NFL talents (1 of which a superstar, no doubt)

The future? 2012-2015 WRs scoring 79+: 11

TCU

TCU WRs in the NFL: 3 -Boyce, Kerley, D. Porter
TCU WRs WITH reg season RECs/KRs, no longer in NFL: 1 -Skye Dawson (TB/DET now CFL)
TCU WRs made NFL camp/ no reg season snaps: 3 -J.Young (PIT twice), B.Johnson (CLE), C.Clay (DAL)

Produced from the following recruits...
TCU WRs signed: 13 11wr/1ath/1cb(kerley) 16 including tryout walkons
TCU WRs with 80+ grade: 2
TCU WRs Top 20 WR/Ath: 0
Kerley has had 3092 all-purpose yards in 4 seasons.

The future? 2012-2015 WRs scoring 79+: 7

So what have we learned? LSU has had far more NFL success at WR of late... but both schools put the same number of players in NFL camps. LSU achieved that number with a far superior talent pool.

Interestingly - Both TCU and LSU have had players DRAFTED who started as a WR and converted to Defense: Ron Brooks/Paul Dawson

ETA:

Don't get me wrong - LSU is my other purple team.

I'm just excited to see what TCU can do now that its finally getting better recruits. TCU had its first Top 50 class EVER in 2011. Top 40 2 years ago, Top 30 last year... Soon to be Top 20.

ETA:

No doubt LSU's rookies were lights out last year...but prior to that - Kerley was the best of the bunch. I think you don't realize how many games he missed due to injury...

Total yards per game played:
Kerley 53.31 (doesn't include passing yards)
Randle 45.67
Lafell 45.54

I would like Sullivan in this class, but I don't think we'll miss him. Pettigrew can be the same type of guy for us. Similar size and skills. To suggest that losing him will have any impact on the future of our wide receiver depth is laughable in my opinion. Dural is an NFL guy after this season. Malachi is a potential 1st round guy. After 2 more seasons with us. Tyron Johnson is a 5 star recruit true freshman. We get him for 3 years. We have all these guys for at least 2 more seasons: DJ chark, trey Quinn, jazz ferguson, Derrick Dillon, donte Jackson. Who knows with diarse but he's a beast too. He Probably isn't going pro after next year. See anderson is also a top prospect committed. I think we'll be ok.

Receiver is not a position we have had trouble bringing in quality guys in the past few years.

Can't blame the kid for wanting to enjoy the recruiting process. I would do the same in his shoes. If he wants to play for LSU he will. If not, their are plenty of wide receivers out there.

even though I think Sullivan is probably a bit better, we did just get Jazz Ferguson as a big WR target, so this wouldn't hurt too much IMO

Told us? Lol, he was quoted as saying he was 50/50 to TCU.

Bottom line is another spot just opened up.

I don't know about that. Wasn't jazz all state in just about every sport his school offered? Guys like that are usually future pros, jus sayin'

Bye. Now we have more room for some of the defensive guys we're after. I'm not even mad.

kid looked good at the opening, but I'm not sweating this one. Either our offense reels him back in this year or we go get another recruit. Either way LSU is recruiting well at WR and I'm not worried.

We still have Spear,Tyron J,Dillon,J Ferg to add to those you mentioned. We will be fine at WR. It's the least position to worry about

Who didn't see this coming? There have been whispers for at least a month now, maybe longer.

On the bright side, that's one more spot we can fill on our stud defensive class.

If there's one position we can afford to miss at it's WR.

Yep

Congrats to the kid for maybe getting more PT at a school that will be relatively obscure compared to LSU

Shouldn't TCU win something before they call themselves elite?

Seriously don't think he'd fit in at WR at LSU. Had bad QB play at Donaldsonville High but was not a difference maker. Was not the best WR on that squad.
