A lot of buzz about needed 3 QBs from the portal. Not so sure that’s the case.

Since 2005, we’ve had 3 QBs get significant reps exactly 1 time-in 2020.

Pull Leavitt out of your arse, sign Clark, let’s play ball.

You need 3 if you sign Leavitt as your 1. No question about that

Good with 2 and Picarella can be the third. Walk-on but he was a 3 star recruit. Had plenty of G5 offers.

Why? If you’re unsure about his health, don’t sign him in the first place

So let's say we have 2. OK, your QB1 tears his ACL in fall camp. Now what?

The drop off after him is so massive as far as proven talent, you have to take the risk. He could get you to a playoff next season. But at this point you're still projecting his recovery.

You need practice arms, run the scout team, and if someone goes down, 3 becomes 2.

I just told you the data says LSU plays 3 QBs .05% of the time over the last 20 seasons

Facts > feelings

So 2 QBs run scout team? Throw every practice pass? And if one gets hurt, the lone QB runs scout team and throws every pass? You are a genius OP

And Leavitt might not be 100 until fall camp. No one knows.

We've got to get 3. It doesn't matter if the other 2 are from Sacramento State and Southeastern.

So just ignore what happened last season with Nussmeier? You need three because of the injury recovery situation. But one can be a freshman signee in February.

Only 2 QBs threw passes last season

Probably do need 3 decent QBs on the roster if for anything other than groom one up for the future. You never know. Not like the NFL where mid season you pick a guy off the street.

That’s because there were only two viable options. And after watching MVB, how viable was that option, really?

There’s no way LSU starts its season with less than three qbs. There are almost 200 qbs in the portal. Only an handful will be starters at major programs like LSU.

You need a starter like Leavitt.

Then you need a back up with playing experience who, for the right money, is willing to be an ankle sprain away from being the starter at LSU. Thats probably how they see Landon Clark.

Then you need at least one developmental qb who, for the right money, will run the scout team and compete for the number 2 spot.

The portal is literally loaded with all sorts of qbs who are not going to be starters. There is about zero chance LSU goes into the season with only 2 QBs.
The notion you are screwed if you are playing your 3rd qb is flawed. Yes, you are in trouble if you get to your third qb, But if the starting qb is out with the flu and the backup sprains an ankle, there could be games where the third string guy gets you through until the guys in front of him heal.

Finally, the notion we cant afford three portal qbs is flawed too. A lower ranked qb in the portal could cost way less than a top high school qb recruit. LSU should have no problem getting a third qb from the back of the portal or juco at a reasonable cost.

You need at least 3 and if you don’t have a 4th scholarship guy, you need a solid walk on.

You hear the term “camp arm” because the QBs can’t throw all day every day.
