My response:
His area is covered by Barton Simmons, formerly of BamaOnline or whatever it's called. So he is going to downgrade Williford so Bama can (attempt to) look better.

Some of you are giving way too much credit to Rivals. If they were as good as you are giving them credit dont you think some of them would have a real job in coaching.
Fact of the matter is that they get most of their info from coaches. Williford is an unknown, impressed the coaches in person, and Miles jumped on him.
Once the Rivals staff gets to talking with other coaches his rating will go up. If in 6 months he is a 2 star then we have something to worry about.

hell i'd love for lsu to land jamarkus mcfarland, rueben randle, and craig loston, but even if they did then does that mean those guys are going to be automatic superstars... no, they still need to put in hard work and not just expect to be destined for greatness

Nutt has a long history of spotting OL undervalued talent and taking it to 1st round draft ability.

Yes...I would like to see this link as well...If you are talking Shawn Andrews...Well, he was a little bit better than a 2*. I imagine you are talking about Jamaal Anderson (DE)
Nutt's lineman were also known for being behind on pass blocking and had to learn from scratch once they made it to the pros...including Andrews

Thank you. I think he was pulling this, along with the rest of his post, out of his arse.

coaches make their money evaluating the lower ranked players no doubt

I can only hope that he turns out as good as our last 2 star player.
For what it is worth, Loadholt was only ranked slighty higher and is an All American 1st round draft pick.

Clean what would you give him (rating)?
Posted on 7/30/08 at 8:41 pm to BilJ
Of all positions, offensive linemen are a crap shoot because most are still growing and developing. Think about it, a 17 or 18 year old being 6-7 and 335 and just hit puberty two years ago. Redshirt him put, him in the weight room then evaluate him the following spring!

How many true freshmen offensive tackle have you seen start in the SEC ?
Posted on 7/30/08 at 8:46 pm to lynxcat
Well, LSU had him in for a personal evaluation by experts. Rivals, well, they huh.......had some journalism majors call around, maybe.

Using rivals rankings, 5.7-5.8 RR
high three to low four star
Hell, think about this...Rivals has an offensive guard ranked #50 in the nation with ZERO offers (on his rivals offer sheet, anyway)....
I don't think this guy is better than Williford.
get this guy outta here

The guy I linked is nearly 100 pounds lighter than Williford and is about the same speed.
That just goes to show that Rivals is playing politics with this hack Barton Simmons.
He's the same person who got Tyler Edwards downgraded after Edwards committed to LSU.
