We've already got that in the bag, IMO.

We can screw that up by losing 2 of the next 3. Auburn is playing very well and whoever we play in the tourney will need a win to make the dance. Those are both teams that need a win more than LSU.

UCONN, Pitt, Louisville, UNC, Wake, OU, Michigan St, Marquette, Nova, and maybe Duke would all get consideration ahead of us at this point IMO. If they all lost badly in the opening game of their tourney and LSU blows everyone out the water, maybe.

We win out, Nova keeps achieving at their current level, we get a 2 seed before Nova. Same with Wake.

Some continue to underestimate how much the committee rewards a team that wins as many games in a row to end the season as LSU would in a win out scenario.

I also don't see Marquette getting above LSU. Their RPI and SOS are no better than LSU and they have a worse record (and would probably lose 1 or 2 more times by the end).

In fact, UCONN, Louisville, Marquette, and Nova Can't all win the BigEast Tourney. Same with Duke,Wake, and UNC in the ACC. I would bet some of those 2-line teams get dropped in the quarter or semifinals while LSU (in this hypo scenario) is rolling along to win their 15th straight and SEC tourney.

lsumatt,

Would you say ONE loss by any of those teams in the Big East teams, or any others you mention, drop them far enough to POTENTIALLY get passed by an LSU team that runs the table? I think asking the Tigers to run the table is an awful lot at this point. I fear about the game at Auburn. Beating us could get AU somewhere on the radar, so they will be coming at us hard.

Me too, but its fun to think about hypotheticals. We were doing this 3 weeks ago when it was stupid...today not so much.

LSU should pass Marquette and Villanova if they lose...especially if its before the tourney championship game. UCONN and maybe Louisville stay above LSU along as they make the semis. Worst case scenario would be all those teams winning out in the regular season and then Marquette and Nova knocking off UCONN and ville to make the finals....but that's unlikely.

Is there really that much difference between a 2 and a 3? I would love a 2, but a 3 would still be pretty awesome.

I have them as a 4 right now. Marquette, I think, has already been jumped by LSU, provided you aren't going strictly by what Lunardi says. His accuracy has been God-awful lately. ESPN preaches he gets all the teams right...well, that only comes down to guessing right on 4 or 5 teams at the most. The seedings, he's been off.

If Villanova falls in their first Big East tourney game, that would be devastating.

3-seeds lose more often in the 1st round ... having a 2-seed is almost a virtual lock for the 2nd round

We'll be lucky to get a 3. It's not a huge difference from a 2 the way that a 5 is different from a 4.

If they win out? Possibly. I'd say 3.

The people last week saying it was impossible for LSU to get a 3 seed if they win out seem to have vanished. I guess LSU's skyrocketing RPI and ranking have scared them off.

sure, but is it that big of a difference? I'm mainly thinking of that Sweet 16 round. You'd probably be playing the same team whether you were ranked 2 or 3. As long as you can avoid the #1 until the Elite 8.

lunardi's projections are if the season ended today and doesn't project out ... if you look at our RPI as it stands right now .. we'd be about a 6 ... beat vandy, then beat an auburn team on the road that needs it a lot worse than we do and then take care of business in the SEC tourney .. and we are at least a 4 if not a 3 .. like carl says, there's really no major difference between 2 or 3 ...

At 30-4, at least a 3 seed is a virtual lock
If we win out (including the SEC Tourney), and we are not at least a 3 seed, then every other SEC team would have to lose it's opening game in the NCAA's or the selection committe would look like absolute tools. I don't think there's a conference above the SWAC/MEAC level that could produce a 30-4 team that doesn't deserve at least a 3 seed (yes, that's a slight exaggeration).

I think possibly a 2 if they win out, but they would have to win by a wider margin than recent games to get up to a 2. It is just exiting that this late in the season, LSU has a reasonable shot to get 30 wins by the end of the season, even if they drop one in the SEC tournament(but making it to the sweet 16). When is the last time an LSU team won 30 games? It is just exiting to think about.

I think a 3 seed is the best case scenario if we win out. Of course something insanely crazy like all teams ranked ahead of us could lose out. But I still say that 3 is the best case and 4 or 5 most likely.

Right now I just want them to beat Vandy on Wednesday night.

And I hope that's what the team is concentrating on.

Interesting topic. Just don't get ahead of yourself. It's fun to dream, but for LSU to win the next 2 games will still be a feat, but even much moreso would be to win 3 in 3 days. With the lack of depth we have...well you know the rest of the story. Having said that though, this is one of the most if the most resilient LSU team I've ever seen, in any sport. So 5 in a row, can't be totally discounted. Just not likely.
