My biggest hope is that Jefferson improves. I don't see any reason why he won't.
i came into this season saying the same thing with a lot of hype/hope. he's regressed BIG time
he's absolutely gun shy, and that's without a real competition going this year. he's also given up on the speed option
JJ improving is no guarantee

On the other hand, the oline could improve. Jefferson will improve. Ford is a beast. Our top 2 receivers are silly-talented.
i'm not worried about RBs. well, i'm not worried if murphy isn't starting i guess
assuming TT stays (which is more likely than him leaving), we'd still have a big question mark at #2 WR
i don't have hope for chris tolliver. i hope he proves me wrong. i think shep may be the #2 WR next year
OL is a total wildcard for a variety of reasons

I'd like to think a more experienced QB/ C battery and a couple other returning OL would help, but our player development for OL and QB seems to be lacking at best.
i really want to know if lee has improved at all
JJ has not (and he may have gone backwards)

2010 Offensive Expectations
I just want us to not suck offensively. I don't think that's TOO much to ask, but I am not confident that it will happen.
Thanks, Miles.

it really is amazing how we can suck so badly on offense
it's like a perfect storm of overrated recruiting, no development/coaching, and horrible scheming
i mean i KNOW we have some superior talent (lafell, toliver, dickson, KW, and CS). that has been established
but man our OL and QB are just SO BAD, and lots of our veteran skill guys other than the ones listed are simply not good

Coaching, coaching, coaching.
Miles and Crowton have pissed away so much already this year. I have some friends who were huge on the "We're holding the big plays until the UF game" bandwagon. I've been saying for weeks now that I want to see Shep throw the ball, because as far as I know, he can't physically do it (because I've never seen it). And I'm not even talking about the "Perriloux fake run/long pass play" that works. I just mean I want to see him toss the ball (forward) to someone else on our team. Horrible coaching move to not ever let him throw it once. If JJ gets hurt tomorrow, what do we do? Nobody has gotten serious reps this year (which is another problem, since we haven't blown out teams we should be blowing out to get backups some legit playing time).
We're simply not a good (offensive) football team. At all. Not even close. And what sucks is that you look at the end of the UGA game, and you KNOW we're fricking capable of playing well on offense, we just never do. Aside from those three minutes at the end of that game, we've done jack shite offensively.

Dude, it just doesn't make sense to me. We have so much experience on the OL, yet they can't do shite. Can't protect. Can't create consistent holes to run through. Etc. I feel horrible for Charles Scott, whose draft status has to be sinking like piece of lead this year.
And our D is improving, but come on, DL, get in the fricking backfield and sack somebody for once. Jesus...
And I'm already tired of the "If I'd have told you that going into the break, we'd be......." bullshite. I would easily be happy with that record, but the problem is that we all have the advantage of hindsight. And in hindsight, we aren't that good. Especially offensively. I couldn't be more pissed at crowton. And miles. It all comes back to coaching. Watching charles scott last night get SO pissed because the plays were taking so long to come onto the field speaks volumes. But still, that's just one aspect (clock management)..there are many that suck. To not use one of our best assets (shep) is horrifyingly stupid. How many times did we throw a ball farther than 15 yards? Cuz I don't remember any really. The D played good, but we still can't get a sack to save our lives, which is more than frustrating.
I don't hate Miles, but I've never really been a fan. I think he makes stupid coaching decisions, most of which luckily work out for him, so people ignore that they weren't smart ones. I think this year those decisions are starting to fail more than they work out, and people are starting to open their eyes.

that's 6-8 of 11 starters. the only definite returns are hebert, josh D, and JJ
JJ will only be 20 years old next season, and still one of the youngest QB's in the SEC..You people need to calm down and give him a couple more years to develop...Miles can't give Lee another shot, because it would make too much sense to try something else when what you're doing isn't working..Shepard is the odd man out IMO.

man it's worse than that. we're horible on offense. 109th in the country

he has awaken from his "god my OL suck and i'm now going to just mail it it" zombie routine last week. thank god

JJ is scared to frick up and he's super hesitant

do we petition the NCAA to let him have a 5th year of playing time?

we'll blow next year for sure.

Meant to mention this in my last post...he needs to step up in the pocket. I know the OL isn't good, but you can't put it all on them. A lot of times, he has time to throw the ball, he just doesn't. And he gets happy feet any time he sees anybody in an opposing jersey. If he'd step up in the pocket (instead of running laterally), he'd get a couple more seconds to make a read and throw the ball.
But again, that's coaching. If you and me and everyday joes can see it, why can't they see it and do something about it...

if we can somehow improve the OL (which is not some unbelievable thing), we may be able to do something
good OL + good RBs can lead to good things, even with a crappy QB (as long as our D plays well)

Yall are all smoking crack if you think TT is coming out this year.

Slo, that's a lot of losses for the O next season, but all Miles has to do is go the JC route next season to reload...Problem solved.

I agree. At any level of football, it all starts with the running game.
And I am not a huge Lee fan, but I wouldn't be pissed to see some 12 at some point this year, because at some point, we're gonna need a QB who can throw the ball. JJ clearly can't seem to do that consistently.
Posted on 10/12/09 at 8:23 am to Skillet
I think Les thought/still thinks talent around JJ would/will be enough to develop him faster b/c next year he'll need JJ to return the inexperience favor.

A good O-line normally takes a couple of years to gel...You just can't have a crappy QB and expect to compete against the big boys.

i've been wanting lee in for series since vandy man
he should have played the whole 4th against ULL
our horrible play and playing close with crappy teams is going to REALLY hurt our offense next year. next year's starters need reps running the full offense THIS YEAR
