Unfortunately if we win out, and Oregon, Notre Dame, and KState start losing I can see it

In my way of thinking that's more of a method than an intent. IOW, what is the BCS intending to prove by having the top two teams play?

Touche', it is more of a method.

I believe the BCS was/is an attempt to crown a more universally-accepted national champion, absent a playoff, since the pre-BCS bowl tie-ins didn't always allow #1 to meet #2 head-to-head.

BUT, the fallacy of many is to submit that the BCS goal is to match the two "best" teams. 2003 USCw, and 2004 Aubie, were arguably two of the "best", yet they didn't make the final cut, for a variety of reasons.

This is my long-winded way of saying just because you were arguably one of the "best" doesn't automatically mean you deserved to be in the NC under the BSC system. Yes, Bama 2011, this means YOU.

I agree and I said so last year. I am a BAMA fan and I am glad we won but we shouldn't have had the opportunity to play in that game in my opinion.

Y'all still had a great team and it is a shame that someone had to lose.

Crazy thing is that it very well could happen again this year. It's nearly impossible to beat a team twice when both teams are at that level. As we witnessed last year, the winner 'rests on it's laurels' and the loser changes it's game plan.

So you're saying the score would've been 35-0 instead of 21-0 if OSU had played LSU in New Orleans instead of Bama?

The BCS went full retard last year and that's the reason it's changing. If you remember back to the 80's and 90's, there were too many instances of the two perceived "best" teams in the country that would not play each other in a bowl game because of the old bowl alliances. Split titles and writer's regional bias ruled the land. So...they concocted the BCS as a system to get those two teams together who would not play otherwise. It was a good step in the direction of establishing a true national champion, but went full retard when it made two teams play each other for a second time. And after it did this they got rid of the system in record time..less than 4 months I think. As an LSU fan, it sucks but at least the silver lining is that it killed the BCS current format and we are inching closer to a true playoff system.

The problem is that saying "Bama beat us so they deserved to be there" is all results oriented. Would the same people saying Bama deserved to be in the game say the same thing if we won 21-0?? Absolutely not, most everyone (and ESPN) would've ridiculed the matchup and would gladly proclaim that OkST would've been a better matchup. That's why I have a problem with this. There would've been no talk of Bama being one of the 2 best teams in the country, and it's all based on the result of the game, not on the merits of the teams leading up to the game.

It's still likely that the BCS would've been blown up.
