so you don't want the 2 best teams playing for the NC? bama would have beat OK ST 44-3

Same I still believe that the FG was good, when that happened I knew it was gonna be a Bama rematch even though OSU still deserved to be in the BCS despite losing to ISU

I don't agree with it being the "best teams," should be the most deserving teams. The "best" allows the committee to pick who they want.

I hope you don't think for ONE DAMN MOMENT that if we lost to Bama 9-6 instead of winning 9-6 that we would have gotten the opportunity for a rematch. Lil Nick would have been on his soapbox saying we already eliminated them, they had their shot. Okla St deserves a chance.

Don't forget how Nick voted OSU lower than anyone else did in the coaches poll. Juuuust enough to skew the numbers a small fraction to knock them out of 2nd place.

100% agree. We beat Bama on the road, bring in the next team in line. Bama went the rest of the season undefeated, they would've gone to a BCS bowl. Bring in the next best team, which would've been OSU.

Two teams from the same side of the same conference. Bama didn't win the West, it didn't win the SEC. It never would've happened to any other team but Bama.

I was pulling for OK St. Alabama has the media behind it. As another poster mentioned, had LSU lost on the road to Bama, they would have not been considered. How can a team that loses at home, does not win its division, in its conference, still play for a NC? OK St schedule was stronger and vs top 25 was superior. The right people wanted a rematch and LSU was not excited about it.

Bingo.

This isn't directed at you, it's just how I still see how the events unfolded after that game. It makes no sense. Bama lost. Bring in the next ranked team. If LSU were to have beaten the tar out of OSU, no disrespect to that team at all, then so be it. No one seemed to have an issue in 2009 when Bama knocked Colt McCoy out of the game only to face a true freshman in his place.

A win is a win. We beat Alabama in their stadium. That should've counted for more than it did. If Alabama is such a world beater, and we beat them, then why didn't it count for more than it did? I'll never change my stance on that.

Also at THEIR house. To this day when people bring that season up I have to correct people on where the 9-6 game was played. The fact that we beat Bama at their home that year seems to be erased from history. To the victors I guess...

It was most definitely good. One of my most unforgettable nights as a fan unfortunately.

I’m sorry we weren’t better!

The rematch wasn’t about “the two best teams.” It was about pissing the rest of the country off so they would demand a playoff which is what Disney/ABC/ESPN wanted.

When Nick Saban went on a political campaign trying to convince everyone that the NC game should be between the two best teams in football, I knew we were doomed. He was on every station, radio program and public event promoting a crusade to have another shot at LSU.

I’ll never forgot that.......it changed college football. I hope to see a documentary one day about “The Kick” that changed football.

A couple years later, when Ohio State didn't win the Big10, he was pumping how much a conference championship should matter.

Then back peddled again when Auburn beat their arse a couple years ago and they got gifted the playoff spot by avoiding Georgia in the SECCG when they were beat up and injured.

He says whatever he needs to benefit him at the time. All that crying about playing fast and not allowing subs for the "health of the players..."

Well, since Bama was rewarded again a couple of seasons ago for not winning the SEC, you can remove "LSU" from that quote above and replace it with any SEC team.

The playoff only allows the MSM to award Bama, and other media darlings a second chance 100 other teams will never get.

PS - in 2011, if this had been Texas or Oklahoma and NOT Oklahoma STATE, LSU would have played one of those two teams. Oklahoma State, like LSU, is a Tier 2 program.

I've said this same thing hundreds of times and it's the damn truth.

Bama got picked because they're Bama. Oklahoma State got screwed because they're Oklahoma State. Bama wouldn't have jumped a program like Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame or USC, if any of those teams had been in Okie State's position.

The fact that the rematch happened basically allowed Alabama to tell prospects, "Why would you go to LSU and have to go 2-0 against us and win the SEC title to win the national title, when you could come here, go 1-1 against LSU, skip the SEC title game, and still be crowned national champions?"
That’s not how they recruit.

Oklahoma State, without a doubt. However, the prospect of an upset was intriguing.

2. What was your reaction upon learning the final result (whether it was live or finding out later)

I watched the whole game live. I was quite surprised by the result, but I had NO IDEA that the game would impact LSU the way it did.

Never once considered the idea of an LSU-Alabama rematch...figured the Championship game would've been LSU-Stanford or LSU-OkState

OSU. Everyone around the program knew that the motivation to play Alabama a second time was not there. We beat them on their field. They were eliminated. While they may have been our equal, the theory at the time was that “the college football season means something”. Should not have been a rematch. Yes I am bitter bc it negates what otherwise would have been considered the best or top 3 teams ever in the history of college football. On Les best day, he would not have beat that team a second time. Nothing to do with Alabama as much as the motivation and preparation they invested.

Reason 992 we're going to destroy Texas... Tom Herman was the DC of Iowa State on that fateful night.

Another fun fact: Paul Rhoads (Iowa State HC in 2011) was the DC for Pitt when they beat West Virginia 13-9 on the final day of the 2007 regular season to put LSU back in the title game.

Paul Rhoads giveth, and Paul Rhoads taketh away.
