Not the point. It's the school's policy. Plus the stuff is illegal.
Who hasn't puffed on a joint? Makes everything taste great!
Still, it's illegal and won't be tolerated for using it at LSU, which I think is great. There are boundaries set and the players know this.
I love TM, he is an amazing player and I'm not dogging him at all, I still am one of his biggest supporters, but there is a line and he crossed it a few times. Miles had no choice.
Either that or let the players lose respect for the coach and have it eventually turn into Miami or Florida St. God forbid, something like Penn State.
I wish TM the best, I really do. He is one of the best players I have ever seen, and a such a young age. It's like there were 2 #7's running around out there, he seems to be everywhere. Keep your head up and live within yourself, TM. You can do it.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying that you proposal is wrong. The problem with it though is that the school has rules with penalties already set for what he did.
I can definitely see it from your point of view, and I'm really conflicted. It's just that, way before the batman quote, I have always felt that rigid rules like this take away from the compassionate human element of dealing with issues such as this. But then again, maybe TM WAS treated with a ton of compassion and understanding and he ignored it. Who knows.

lol...
Your arguments are hilarious.

Exactly, it's only the athletes. While I agree that performance enhancing drugs should be stringently prohibited, weed offers no proven advantage in athletic competition.
I dunno. What if they told him there were funyuns in the end zone before a return?

Compassionate human element?
The frick?
He's a football player who was given MULTIPLE chances. Get off this nanny state kick.

Wait, did you just use a quote from fricking Batman to prove your point?
Perhaps using the quote cheapened the message, but I have long believed what it conveys - rigid codes of conduct have a way of dehumanizing an institution or society.
And pleas, please, please don't compare this to Penn State... Jerry Sandusky raped children. Tyrann Mathieu smoked a plant that is only illegal because the government can't find an efficient way to tax it.

Uh, wasn't gonna make that connection.
But, to your rules, I'm assuming that you either never played, or barely played organized sports. Because if you did, then you'd see why the rules need to be in place. Especially at that level.

Rummel - you are usually one of my favorite posters on here, and this is one of the few times I've disagreed with your position. However, seeing as Romney is about to pick Paul Ryan as his running mate, SOMEONE has to take the nanny state position in case our country starts to be run based on the philosophies of Ayn Rand.
And you are right about my sports background, I'm a skinny guy but I do love sports. And I hate to see this happen to a guy with so much talent and heart.

If only you could understand what it was like to be in the position of enforcing unpopular rules on otherwise positive contributors to a program, especially ones that were high profile and put forth quality work, rummy...

But do you not see that he did it to himself?
It was not the big, bad, institution. It was not stringent government rules.
It was Tyrann Mathieu not following the rules that his coach and school had set forth. All he had to do was NOT smoke weed!

Now THAT is truly frightening... The funny thing is that her drug policy actually supports my position. But her social views...
If any civilization is to survive, it is the morality of altruism that men have to reject.

"Flame away, but I think this would really help him learn to be less selfish."
Since when did this become TM7 University. He was told the ramifications of his actions more than once. He had the more to lose than anyone on the TEAM and he still fricked up. Shame on him, I don't feel sorry for him. Ya he's a great ball hawk, but dude get over it.
What do yo want the University of Miami 2.0
