It was Oklahoma and USC and being ranked so low gave them pretty much no shot to jump either one

AU's schedule was also pretty terrible OOC, which hurt them.
also the respect for the SEC is so high right now, you go undefeated and you're in.

Wrong DBG.....Auburn could have started 4th or 5th and it would not have mattered...the media loves them some usc and texas and oklahoma and alabama and ohio state...just the way it is.

Or 3rd. I even think they could have started 1 or 2 that year and gotten jumped.
LSU's schedule sets up to where even if they started unranked, they'd be in the NCG by the end of the year if they go undefeated. If they start off 5-0, they'll likely be in the top 10.
