WHy the frick are you blaming Vol? He clearly lined out the plan in place, it was Gilbert who reneged again. Is Vol supposed to be clairvoyant?

One possibility, I would assume he would have to pay full price as an out of state student.
The problem with all this... is the mental health waiver the truth would come out. That he told LSU one thing and was working with UGA to get eligible so he could get the waiver.
I am assuming also that the is still not eligible at LSU, but even if he were... I have a feeling this might not be over for him.

If this guy was still on a scholly because he told LSU he’d be back and UGA was still in contact isn’t that tampering?

He's in the portal, UGA can have contract.

Gilbert is both mentally and physically weak. He will struggle having to play against talented corners in the SEC instead of going against slower safeties and linebackers.
He won’t survive a full CFB season.

But not if he was on scholarship and enrolled right?

Players in the transfer portal often stay enrolled in school if they enter during the school year. Otherwise, they risk not being academically eligible to transfer to another school.
It's up to the school as to whether a player in the portal remains on scholarship. Some pull the scholarships immediately, but it's up to the school. As much as LSU was begging him to stay, it wouldn't be a surprise if they kept him on scholarship and paid for online classes to get him eligible. No one knows if he was or wasn't taking classes, but it's odd that he announced his destination about the time grades come out.

Not going to read all 12 pages of this thread to see if this has been addressed already, but unless and until the SEC changes its intra-conference transfer rule, Gilbert is not eligible to play next season at UGA.
I am sure there has been some discussion in the SEC about changing this rule to bring it in-line with the NCAA's recent "one time transfer" rule, but it has not happened yet.
It will be interesting to see where the various schools end up on this issue. My guess is that some see that they are winners in the new transfer portal world and would be in favor of the SEC ditching its rule (e.g. Florida, Bama, etc), while others are probably against it (e.g. Tenn.)
Personally, I hope the SEC keeps its rule. It is bad enough with the NCAA rule, but if the SEC changes its rule too, you will have SEC schools tampering with each others roster and recruiting your own players to stay will be a year-round exercise. Signing day will just be round one of the never ending recruiting battle.

So if he is on scholarship, does it mean UGA tampered or once you’re in (transfer portal) and lsu keeps you on a scholarship it doesn’t matter who you talk to?

SEC presidents meet tomorrow and are expected to change the infra-conference transfer rule.

Once the player enters the portal, he can be contacted by any other school regardless of his scholarship status at his current school.
It’s likely the reason Dabo immediately drops from scholarship Clemson kids that enter the portal.

Once you enter your name in the portal, you're fair game for anyone. You can essentially be recruited by teams all over again. It's still up to the school as far as pulling your scholarship, which most do. I'm not sure when Gilbert officially entered the portal.

With 2 high profile transfers (Tennessee to Alabama and LSU to Georgia), expect it to change.

As far as Gilbert talking to Georgia or other schools, yeah timing comes into play. They couldn't talk to him until he officially entered the portal, but there's tampering going on all over college football now. I'm sure he heard from schools indirectly the day after he left the team.

If LSU left him on scholarship after he entered the portal, after he declared he was going to go to florida.... and without withdrawing his name from the Portal. That would have been fairly dumb, imo.

Not sure it will matter, he probably just wants to get some more games in... sit out 2022 is possibility and declare for draft for 2023.

He's going into GA as an "athlete", looks like he didn't want to be a tight end anymore. I wonder if that is one of the (many) issues he had here?
