I mean, it sucks for Larson that he plays like arse against midweek teams while all of his competition is better. Btw, Larson was better than a lot of people last year in all games, not just SEC. He didn't suck in midweek games like he had this year.
The point of my post is that some players excel against shitty midweek pitching to pad their overall stats while tanking on the weekends. Larson has never been that guy. He hits better against better pitching. The other point is that he hasn't had as many chances as guys like Pearson & Frey, who both hit MUCH better in non-conference games to pad their stats.
Do this... go back and find the last time Pearson got a basehit in an SEC game with runners in scoring position. I'm pretty sure it was last year. Thankfully, he's got a few HRs this year so he does have some RBIs, but he has had plenty of chances with a runner on 2nd and/or 3rd and keeps coming up short. I'm not shitting on Pearson. I like the guy, but he slumps and still plays. Larson struggles, and this board expects him to come out of a slump while on the bench somehow.
I'm a huge fan of Brown. He may be my favorite player, but he's constantly getting out on the bases and he's only batting .268 SEC games.

He's had about 12 shitty at bats and a home run now in his most recent appearances.
Larson and Jones are tied for 7th on the team in SEC HRs. Tell me about shitty at bats. Larson has 2 plate appearances and Jones has 78.

Frey is in the lineup because he gives us another power hitter in a lineup that doesn't hit a lot of homeruns.
45 SEC plate appearances and just got his 2nd HR last night. Frey may be one of my favorite players on the team. Solid Louisiana guy that has hung around. I cheer for him as much as anyone. But through his first two at bats last night (both Ks), he was something like 1-18 since the Okie series. He showed up in his last three trips to the plate last night which was wonderful to see.
But let's break this down for those of you who keep missing the point...
Frey
.250 BA vs. SEC pitching (10-40)
.488 BA vs. non-SEC pitching (22-45)
Pearson
.233 BA vs. SEC pitching (10-43)
.366 BA vs. non-SEC pitching (15-41)
Some guys struggle when it comes to better pitching. Larson has never been that guy. Nothing would make me happier than to see Frey and Pearson crush the ball against good pitching.

quote:and for some reason, Larson has struggled against midweek pitching this year, even though he didn't last year. I'm not sure how to explain this to you. When you can't do well against McNeese St, you aren't earning at bats against SEC pitching. You're the only one who gives a shite what he did last year.

This year he hadn't earned at bats over Frey, Pearson, or Brown. He'll probably get more chances now that he has had 1 at bat out of his last dozen that haven't looked like dog shite.
I don't understand how this is hard to understand. Head to head against his direct competition on this team, he was last out of 4 guys for 99% of the season until 1 at bat last night. His playing time has been a direct reflection of his at bats this year.
Blame him for not figuring out how to hit against shitty in state pitching. Don't blame Jay for playing guys based on how they've actually performed on the field this year.
