Pitcher is supposed to throw the ball in the direction of where the foot lands. This kid’s getting a lot of latitude on this move

The rule is written that the pitcher must gain ground towards the target. So if they intend to pick off they must gain ground towards first base.
It's a good move, but I would call it a balk since he started to home then picked off once he saw the runner jump.

To me it looked like he was going to the plate with pitch and at the last second went to first base. It should have been called a balk.
