I'll bite..
Coker averaged 26 throws per game last year. Harris averaged 23 I believe.
The problem is the timing. A good chunk were on obvious passing downs which are inherently hard to convert. Others were play action bombs on first down which had some success, but they're not the hardest thing in the world defend.
When successfully defended (or poorly executed) you are 90 percent sure the next play is going to be run. stuff it. then you know it's going to be a pass on 3rd.
Variety was not the issue.
Henry is a tool bag that looks like the predator. but dumber.
Also, Bama had a very good O line. It gave the plays a chance to develop and opens up your options.
Let alone the fact that it makes it easier to run behind.
Coker/Kiffin/Saban/Ridley etc did a lot more throwing to where the WR was going to be. Meaning quick outs to the sideline. A QB who knows when and where A WR isolated against one CB will cut from a post route to the sideline.. And can make the pass.. is extremely effective at any level.
We do that maybe once or twice a game. The vast majority of our passes are "leading" the receiver. Meaning run down the sideline, and I'll chunk it. Or run 5 yards up field and then veer to the middle of the field while I watch you cross the whole way.
Those are easier to defend, and much easier to get pressure on the QB since they take longer to develop.
Yeah. Derr.. It's not that it isn't "going to make it." It's that we don't necessarily have the OLine to make it work. And Miles refuses to implement anything to play to our strengths.
Having Fournette bounce to the outside, or running a QB option, quick outs to the sidelines, or quick comeback routes, or bubble screens to a one on one receiver. are what we need to do to take the pressure off of our currently deficient O Line. You convert a couple of those and suddenly they're not sending all linebackers and defensive linemen up your gut when you fail on that 1st down play action.
I think all of those were done against wisconsin. Fournette had his longest run on the bounce out.
I believe we had a QB option that Harris pitched for a short gain (had he kept it it would've gone for a first).
Two bubble screens to Dural in two drives. One resulted in a first down from our two yard line. The other resulted in a TD.
Those were 5 or 6 of our absolute best plays.. The other 54 were centered around maximizing our weaknesses, which yielded the loss.

His opinion was that LSU was depending too much on LF and thus not developing or relying the passing game.

LSU has the talent to do both but somehow doesn't use or develope it. Look at Bama last year. They had a great running back in Henry but also developed a great passing game using Ridley and other receivers.

LSU has got to change the offense. Three yards and a cloud of dust is not going to make it these days.

Thanks for your brilliant insight. No one here thought of that. If only you'd come here a few years ago we could have been saved a lot of heartache.
