They’re going to fall into the same trap Auburn did. They will fire a coach after coach in a vain attempt to reclaim the greatness that was due solely to saban.

I’d spend that cash on recruits.
Horrible idea to toss 75 mill.

They are stuck with him. They can't pay that buyout AND field a competitive team in this era.
The irony is that being unable to buy him out may be the saving grace from the typical Alabama (I mean state, not school) craziness with head coaches.
Once you get into the cycle of demanding too much, too soon and firing coaches who have to come in and rebuild, then firing them too soon, you turn into Auburn.
There aren't even that many better candidates who would take the job. People are going to throw out Lane even though he failed spectacularly last year when Ole Miss went all in. There's no data that he could take a team like Bama any better.
And I say this as a person who was on the Lane train for LSU HC. I'm no hater.

i never liked the DeBoer hire and said so from the start.
At the D1 level, he had one good year at Fresno and 2 at UW, but that was primarily due to Michael Penix. That’s a flash in the pan, not sustained success.
Bama WAAYYYY overpaid at 8 years for $87 million. And i said so at the time.
He was by far the best coach option they had at the time and he got a market rate deal.
Even someone like Elko, who was #2 that cycle, was hired a month+ before DeBoer, so even #2 wasn't an option.

Don't forget the success they had with the last LSU coach they stole...and Ed Orgeron did say he wanted back in.

Deboer looks like he has and inspires no attitude. The bama swag looks lost

This is exactly what’s going to happen to them. Their issue is that they attribute the greatness they experienced over the past 15 years to that script a on the side of the helmet. This is their destiny. Due to abandonment of any logic they will make emotional decisions.

let's be honest... with as spoiled, entitled, and demanding as that fan base is, it was always going to play out EXACTLY like this, no matter who they hired, b/c there is only one Nick Saban... NIL and the transfer portal clearly has certainly made it even harder on the unlucky bastard that took the job...
basically the bar was set way too high, for ANY coach to reach, so it may take a few coaches for that bar to come back to relatively reasonable levels and for the fan base to realize how absurd their expectations were
