Hess won't start unfortunately. They have a guy from JUCO coming in.
Don't know why that would keep Hess from starting. He's arguably the best pitcher we have. Likely better than your JUCO, regardless of who you're talking about.
Hess will be at whatever spot they feel he's most valuable. Nobody will be keeping him from being a starter if that's where PM wants him

Or maybe it'll turn out he's not as effective as a starter. Just because he has electric stuff doesn't mean it will translate over 6-8 innings. He will obviously get a look at being a weekend starter, as he should

You just echoed what I said basically. Maybe he's not a starter, better as a closer. Look at what happened with Matty Ott.....
My point was that Hess isn't getting pushed back bc some JUCO guy is showing up.

I know. Sorry if it seemed like I was trying to argue with you, was moreso agreeing and supplementing your post.
If said JUCO guy is a stud, I think it could be a factor in that we won't need to force Hess into a role that doesn't best suit him and the team

Absolutely.
If that happens we are in great shape. I just dont see it tho, but you never know. Who's the last JUCO pitcher that really came in and blew everybody away?

That's a good question. The closest I can think of is maybe Verdugo?

This is the best thread going right now. Actually therapeutic looking to who we have coming back and the new faces. Reading through all of the freshman pitchers coming in, just on paper this looks to be a really good group of prospects. I'm not seeing a whole lot of focus on Stortz, just looking at his numbers he seems really legit. Also- apparently he is a big time bat. I know CPM is (for whatever reason) seemingly against pitcher/fielder guys. Can't recall ever seeing even one. Do y'all think this was addressed as part of his recruitment?

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Slaughter would be a good third baseman.

Yeah I've been intending to start a thread asking about our incoming catchers but wanted to wait til the smoke/melt cleared. Can anyone give a brief breakdown of him and Doolittle?
Feduccia is the LSUE catcher, excellent behind the plate (won a JUCO gold glove) and will contend for the starting spot almost immediately as Mainieri demands his catchers be defensive minded. His hitting from the right side is more oriented towards a gap to gap line drive approach. A plus for him is the patience at the plate, he only struck out something like 20 times last year in a little over 200 at bats, where his OBP% was over 0.500.
Doolittle is the 6'4 200lb freshman who will be the next great catcher for LSU in due time. Don't expect him to jump out of scene...remember Ross, Scivique, and Papierski all needed time early on to adjust to the position in SEC play. He's got a strong arm and is very swift for the body he has, needs to show more power but again that will come in time.
Plan to see Feduccia see most of the time next year with Doolittle coming into his own during '19 and '20 respectively.

We have a few big holes in our line-up to fill before next season. It would seem that the recruits have the numbers and potential to fit into a few of them. I'm eagerly awaiting the start of fall scrimmages, in 3 months, to see who pans out.

Does Cabrera fill in in right field?
And I wonder if that late addition second baseman juco is good enough to allow slaughter to move to third

I think SS is up for grabs would not be surprised if we land another one before the season.

I hope Chris Reid finds a way back in the lineup. He was so consistent last year. Who gives a shite if they're all singles. That's what Florida won on last night
Totally agree. I really like Chris. He has a great attitude.

Hess is good but not 7 innings good. There are guys that have great control over an extended period of time. Hess is good 2/3 innings max. Amazing talent. He'll make millions in the MLB. He looks like he could be the next Brian Wilson/Rivera/Chapman. His arm isn't built for complete games. You can't start if you can only make it 5 innings max.

That's my guess. My way too early guess. I don't know squat about the incoming players.
Cabrera will be a stud. Part of the reason he was drafted so late was because he made his intentions clear that he was coming to LSU. Was the no.55 prospect entering the draft

That won't keep Hess from starting.....the fact that he loses 3-5 mph on his fastball and loses his off speed location after about 30-40 pitches is what will keep him from starting....unless of course he corrects that.
