re: ELI5: why are we playing at Oxford 2 years in a row?

changed bc of 9 conference games
But why only four conf games at home for the Tigers, and five on the road? That's not at all equable. In this case, we should do four at home, four on the road, and one on a neutral field. Play Aggies in Houston, or play Old Miss in New Orleans. Something like that--

McFraud isn't a bad coach
He's not a bad coach. He's just a victory-challenged coach.
Honestly I really thought Trent Johnson was a really good coach, and that it was a home run hire. And he delivered Season 1-- 27-8, conference champions, second round loss to eventual tourney winner NC Tarheels. But he proved to be a one-hit wonder at LSU, and couldn't repeat the successes at Nevada and Stanford. And he later was an abject failure at TCU -- worse than even McMahon here.

Matt Mauck is an all-time LSU football success story. He was a BASEBALL player who wasn't even initially given a scholarship to play football, but he earned it--and how!

Visualize this:
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Miss. State
Tennessee
Ole Miss
Texas
A list of all the SEC teams McMahon has yet to beat since he's been the coach.
According to ESPN Analytics, LSU will be favored in home games vs Missouri, Texas A&M, Miss St and OU.

It's a shot to the brain. You can't change another human being's psyche. Will Wade is fine where he is; he has no interest in again entertaining LSU. This whole Wade escapade is getting tiresome. It's the same dynamic as trying to drum up a relationship with a girl that constantly brushes you off.
Unfortunately it doesn't get easier for the Tigers on Saturday. Missouri is tied with Arkansas and Vandy for 1st place in conference play, and so far they've been a veritable bashi-bazouk in SEC action: upsetting Florida, beating Kentucky on the road and beating Auburn convincingly last night. Shockingly ESPN analytics has the Tigers with a 60.5% likelihood of beating Missouri-- somehow I don't see it happening. LSU IMO comes out shell-shocked like they did vs SC earlier.
And Florida on the road follows that
And Arkansas on the road follows that
We're lookin' at an 0-7 start right out of the gate. No bueno

this type of loss is the most gut wrenching
It certainly has resulted in more outrage on the rant than the previous losses-- including the botched last minute vs Aggies, the 43-15 explosion by a bad SC team, and a similar wretched start at Vanderbilt. And it's all the result of mathematics -- and science -- not McMahon having a brain spasm on sidecourt.
If Chandler had tossed that inbound pass just one foot shorter-- or longer -- Moreno would have been out of position to make the basket in time, or the pass would have been picked off. Science, not bad coaching lost the game. Not to mention Pedro Tomba's bricks late.
Just allow the season to play out, and then discuss the firing option. I see seven wins coming up- not all these teams are basketball juggernauts like Kentucky who regard winning as the only option. McMahon isn't perfect, but the season is salvagable. An NIT fit isn't the worst outcome

Forget the last play
Is there any way we can have a do-over? Let's just remove the last play!
And to play advocate's devil: That guy McMahon can coach. He's just challenged at finding ways to win.
This thread fails to examine the whole picture. We went through six straight seasons of worse basketball than what's currently being served up-- the last four years of Dale Brown and the first two of John Brady. Football also sucked in those days. Fortunately those were the halcyon days of baseball, five championships in just nine years!
The only thing missing in the 90's was The Rant. And no, McMahon isn't the worst LSU coach. Give him the benefit of the doubt. He could certainly have won two of the four SEC games.

re: LSU basketball deserves better

Wrong, wrong, wrong--- LSU was a basketball SCHOOL during the 5 seasons of CWW. It's sinful that SW didn't allow him to coach in the 2019 and 2022 NCAA tourney appearances
Take McMahon out of the mix. Kentucky did make a fantastic play to win the game, and Tomba did brick those last two free throws. Everybody seems to think it's CMM at the foulline and CMM trying to defend the desperation last shot.

It just isn't going to work here for Matt
Hold it--hold it--hold it: listen to me good: I can debunk the mystery of college basketball in two words: Dennis Gates.
Two years ago Mr Gates went 0-19 in conference play, and most of those games weren't close. Last year they had a great class come in and the made the tourney. Now they're 3-1 SEC (13-3 overall) and second place in the conf. Are you telling me McMahon can't achieve the same level of success here? Think about that -- 0-19 in conf play just two years ago, and now firmly in the elite fleet!

Hunh? JJ went 2-17 his last season in SEC play--the second worst LSU team in history, other than 1966-67.

McMahon will be fired
I think he's canned after they lose BIG to Missouri on Saturday
What's comical about Tomba bricking 2 free throws with 1.9 secs left? That, baws, lost the game
Kentucky is playing much better in the 2nd half, but LSU is playing well too. They just need to keep making the open look shots
The man with the Denzel face is as hot as a firecracker!
