You don’t think it was the coaches fault to not sub for a defensive replacement in the 9th up 3 runs for the guy that has 25% of the entire team’s errors on the season? And that player commits two errors leading to 6 unearned runs costing the game. And therefore the series.

You don’t agree that was a poor coaching move?

The guys he played at 3rd have fielding percentages of .923 & .936. Before the LSU game, Curley had a fielding percentage of .924. He has had significantly more chances fielding the ball than the guys behind him and has not been significantly worse than they are.

So, no, I do not agree. Ultimately, the onus is on the player to make plays.

Hey JML, if you still need someone to cover the game thread for you, I can fill in. Just let me know.

They moved him to DH the next game. He had 5 errors in previous 8 games. The coach has said publicly “it’s mental” in regards to his fielding. Specifically throwing it to first.

Last game that had him at 2nd.

Why would they do that if he is the best option?

Before the two errors in that game, he had made 1 error in his previous 5 and had made 3 errors in 15 SEC games.

LSU had hit a total of 1 ball to third before his two errors.

We can do this all day. Ultimately, coaching decisions like this one are not, in my opinion, the reason for a loss. The error was on the player, and they were not tremendously difficult plays; Curley just let it get in his head.

I also think LSU is the better team.

So the numerous articles about his poor fielding, the questions to the coach, the move to a different position was all due to one bad inning? Two balls that he booted and all of this fall out?

Cmon man. He has been a defensive liability playing on the left side of the infield. Just google his name and read the articles.

quote:

It’s just the latest defensive miscue for Curley. He’s committed six errors, almost all throwing, in Tennessee’s last 12 games. He committed zero errors and played clean defense while at second base throughout last weekend’s Kentucky series. There’s been defensive mistakes past the listed errors including at Ole Miss when he patted a routine grounder to shortstop so long that the runner beat it out for an infield single.
