While I understand that we didn't strike out a lot that is because we swung at everything and poked the ball around. The strategy of I have to swing early at bad pitches so I don't get behind in the count because their strikeout pitch is too good doesn't make sense. If you get down in the count you shorten your swing and protect. I'd rather be down in the count than swing at a first pitch curveball every at bat and getting dinks. You have to be selective and wait on your pitch. CC pitcher last night threw about 60 pitches through 6 innings, that is god awful

Actually, if it's a split, team 1 wins 50% of all series and team 2 wins 50% of all series. This accounts for 100% of the series played.

I see what you did there. That should say 25% of the remainder of series.

So if it's 50/50 how did Virginia and Vandy play each other back to back years? How did USCe win back to back and play for another?

If you repeat, you can easily make the case that you had a dominant team.

If you have one unbeatable pitcher, you are twice as likely to win a 3-game series over a team that has mere mortals.

I'm not saying that there's no such thing as a dominant team. I'm saying that if you're NOT a dominant team, it's 50/50. And on average, there aren't many dominant teams.

If you took 64 major league and minor league teams and played them in this format, I bet a few minor league teams advance. We see college teams beat pro teams in spring training all the time. Current format is a total crapshoot.

LSU was one of the most fundamentally sound clubs all year. Great fielding percentage, great discipline at the plate.

I don't know what team you were watching. What I saw was young talent that had not learned winning fundamentals. Failing to hit behind the runner when a man was on second with nobody out was a good example. Too many first pitch swings. We rarely made CC pitcher work last night. A couple of guys in the lineup do this but most didn't.

The good side of this is that these are things that they should learn as they progress and be even better next year.

The other thing that has picked at me is how many breaking balls we throw in the dirt with runners on base. I am not sure if this is planned or just what happens. If you listen to the TV pundits it sounds like it is planned...

Felt like CCU would beat us 10/10. They did every aspect of the game better than we did.

Not sure I'd agree that CCU did everything better.

Examples, LSU pitchers struck out far more CCU batters than did CCU pitchers

LSU had more hits.

LSU had more base runners.

No stat for it, but I'd say LSU had more balls hit directly at CCU defeners.... which obviously led to our hits not producing as many runs.

Sometimes you have 3 hits and 7 runs, other times you have 8 hits and 2 runs. It happens.

The problem is not all teams are equal. You gotta go out and give it your best and sometimes the other team has a little bit more fortune than you do and "best" team doesn't win. That's the great thing about sports. The favorite doesn't always win.
