Dude, we will not get a top 8 seed. We won't even host much less get a top 8 seed. We need to just hope to make the tourney right now.

We're going to finish in the top 8 of the SEC. That'll get us into the tournament.

YES... 06.. I KNOW.

We don't need a crazy win streak to get a Top8 seed IMO. Again, I don't have a lot of faith in this happening, but we just need to win series...simple as that.

Unfortunately, with our start we've given ourselves no wiggle room. If we want a Top8 seed, we basically have to win all 7 series from this point forward. Will it happen? Probably not. But it's certainly do-able with our SP.

I think your scenario gets us a Regional but not a top 8 seed. The SEC is gonna get 2 max. Of course all of this discussion depends on how UF, USC and Vandy finish. There is no way to know this now of course, but it is fun to discuss.

If we lose the series to Auburn there will be a meltdown.

You can't ever expect a sweep, but we NEED to sweep Auburn. They're not very good.

We will have a very hard time making top 8 in the conference if we lose the series to Auburn.

West Coast players? What are you talking about? Who is west coast besides KG(Col)? The whole lineup tonight is LA besides Hanover(NC), Jones(miss) and Ross(Tx).

I'm hopeful because we still have Auburn, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi State on the schedule.

Simply winning those series gives us 8-4. A couple of sweeps are possible if things go perfectly. Maybe.

Taking 2/3 from Arkansas and going 3-3 against Vandy and Alabama is 5-4.

That's 16-14. Not terrible for how we've started.

While "officially" it is too early to panic, everything you said in your original post is spot on. The "IT" is missing from this team....big time.

Everyone knows that KY & TN are both terrible, but AU & MSU are dangerous.

Ole Miss and Arkansas are below-average SEC teams this year, and LSU struggles against them. Auburn & Miss. State could possibly both be better teams.

While I agree with you about our schedule, I'm losing in confidence in this team to take series from most SEC teams.

Yeah, looking at LSU's last 20 SEC games, it's an open question whether or not the Tigers will win more than 10 of them, even with KY & TN still coming up.

yea, it's totally cliche to say, "well, they just dont have it"

but thats the case this year it seems. the clutchness isnt there, the big play isnt there, the balls and fight, whatever. IT just isnt there right now

Yeah, well all that stuff is hard to come by when you just aren't very good at hitting or pitching to start with.

This is not a team of great players who have been going through frustrating slumps. It's a team with many players who were either (A) just never very good to begin with, or (B) very talented, but sorely lacking in developed skill.

In other words, this is not a team just waiting for the right moment where everything "comes together." It's a team with too many players who have never gotten the basics down in the first place.

If we win the next two, very few will agree that we are in trouble. I will reserve judgement until we get to the midpoint of SEC play.

I agree with Doc's assessment, but if Watkins was playing the way he did last year before the injury, that would be a big boost for this team. I thought he did an excellent job as a lead off hitter.

This is still a team that has an outside shot of surprising people by coming up with a regional win, but that would depend a lot on Eades and Gausman actually learning how to pitch.

So far this season, I have not liked what I've seen from them at all. I have not been impressed with Gausman for any single appearance that he's ever had. Even the ones where he puts up good stats, he's still just living dangerously doing stuff he's not supposed to be doing.

Agree with your assessment on Gausman. For a power pitcher, he hasn't had the type of strike out to walk ratio you would see out of a dominate pitcher.

He didn't. He had a bunch of atrocious at bats and then became a liability in the field. Maybe he'll get out of the funk he was in and then come back and help. Rhymes has been doing a great job at leadoff, that's not our problem.

gausman was awesome against florida, thats cant be debated

but i agree that he's been getting by on talent more often than not. and that is very disappointing, because ive been one of the guys defending the coaching staff. but it's getting hard to defend grewe

youre right, gausman and eades do not know how to pitch right now, period. i think kurt mccune just has an innate understanding right now of how to pitch in the SEC, but i dont have total faith that he will continue like this and develop into one of the best pitchers in the country, whatever else
