there is a reason these don't factor in until later in the season. They need a lot of data in order for them to sort out. Come week 8, we will be up at the top of most of these computer polls

UO and WVU haven't had tough schedules other than LSU, beating creampuffs only helps SOS so much no matter the gaudy offensive stats, which effects LSU's standings. Bama beat AR and UF, AR beat A&M, what's hard to understand. LSU just needs to keep taking care of business.

Clemson ahead of us in both polls
Well, at least that makes SOME sense, given they've also beaten three ranked teams, but Texas? Iowa State is arguably the toughest team they've played. Iowa freaking State! And not only is Texas ahead of us, but their SCHEDULE IS TOUGHER!?!?!?!?!

"Aside from the top 2, Clemson has accomplished the most through the first 5 weeks, followed by Boise St., LSU, Oklahoma St., Michigan, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Illinois"
Really? Boise has accomplished more than us so far?

Right. People need to relax. These computer polls are always much more rational looking as the season marches on when there is a lot more data.

need to wait until everyone is at least into the thick of their conference schedules before SOS makes any sense at all. People don't realize its not just who you play, but who the teams you played have played in addition to your team, etc etc

We need to come up with our own ranking system. Hrm, I may work on this... develop an algorithm then write a program to do the calculations.
The only problem is finding the data in one place like schedules and results for 120+ teams.
EDIT: Isn't there a TD guy who already does this?

It's our offensive stats and the passing yards we gave up to WV.
Not surprised by this on these 2 polls.

I didn't know they factored this into the polls
Are you sure that they do?

according to the chart Boise has played a stronger schedule ???
that's what's weird to me....
the WV game did stack the numbers against us for now
+ 1 Limited data = skewed results, it will become more accurate as data grows.

Glad they wait until Week 8 for the first BCS Rankings...
hope you dont think thats a coincidence. computers are not subjective, they are objective, and need large data sets to make produce accurate results.
anyone bitching about computer rankings this early in the season is just pretty stupid

Computer polls are not designed to be accurate until all the date has been entered (ie all games have been played)

How the hell does Alabama have a higher SOS than LSU witht he likes of North Texas and Kent St on there?!?!?!?!!?
Posted on 10/4/11 at 9:53 am to FTL Tiger
The Colley Matrix isn't designed to be accurate until after 6 or 7 weeks of games.
Nothing to see here...

it's not designed to be an indicator of future performance at all
it's designed to evaluate which teams have accomplished the most based on all available win/loss data. therefore it's not "accurate" until all the data is in.. therefore after the BCSNCG is played.
