My cousin has been an SEC Football Ref for upwards of a decade. As an LSU alum he has never been allowed to officiate an LSU football game. Not sure if it's SEC policy or a personal choice.

The SEC has had this policy for years. Literally like forever. First conference to do this was SEC.

U are prohibited from
Calling a game for a school u played for
Calling a game in the state u live in
Calling a game for coach u played for
Calling a game for a team u coached for

These rules do not apply to non SEC games however.

Although I never blame officials this is a very good philosophy. If the SEC were to do this they would have to hire just about all new officials.

It always stunk to high heaven that the head of SEC Officiating is a Bama grad.

Big 10 making changes where officials can't officiate game if from the same state as one of the teams playing. Can we get the SEC to do the same or will the Bama privilege prevail? The Ohio State game had at least 3 officials with ties to Ohio.

Plus, they've seen what's been going on down here for years.

If you can't ref a game where you went to school, like bama Steve Shaw, you should not be an alum of any school in the conference and be over the refs. Sha retired from BellSouth/AT&T..he doesn't need the money. If they have to hire alumns then all schools should be equally represented.
