Yep..just like the rest of the SEC back then.

so your saying that there were no good basketball players back then because they were all white? And Maravich wasn't as good as every one makes him out to be because he played against "slow white boys"....even though he had no help at all?

are you retarded? Serious question

I 've got no problem with the conclusion that Pistol Pete was a better college player than M. Jordan.

Has nothing to do with what "Help" he didn't have, when 99% of the league was slow & white.

Name just one white Center as Good as Shaq.

1. There weren't many centers as good as Shaq...no matter what their race was.

2. Shaq was CJs teammate...thanks for proving my point

3. Don't know why you decided to turn this into a race thing.

Whiffed on the Shaq queston eh? It's not really a race thing, it was just a very different game back then.

I agree. I wonder what each would have done in each others place though. PP in a tightly run Dean Smith program with 4 other stars on the floor and MJ playing against all white teams with the green light to do as he pleased every time down the floor.

I think there could be a good argument made for Alcinder.

Yeah they even changed the dunking rules because of Alcinder.

Maravich was playing todays game 40+ years ago....many of today PGs have credited Maravich for changing the game. Thats why he's the greatest of all time.

Shaq won college player of the year and unanimous first team All-American twice

I'm just telling you what I saw. I was attending LSU during those years, and rarely missed a game. Shaq was a dominant, physical force, no doubt. But I stand by my original statement that CJ>>>>Shaq in college. CJ was simply jaw-dropping to watch. I don't know that I've seen a better pure shooter since CJ. Stephen Curry from Davidson might come close. He reminds me a lot of CJ.

Pistol averaged 44 pts a game in college over 83 games thats 3 consecutive seasons (43.8, 44.2, 44.5 in those 3 years) and averaged over 5 assists per game as well.... This was all without a 3 point line too. No one will ever touch that.

This is truly amazing.

Pistol Pete. Averaging over 44 points a game for a college career might be the most untouchable record in sports. No one will EVER do that again.

As a college center Bill Walton was much better than Shaq.

Pistol was before my time, but you can't argue numbers.

I watched LSU from the late 70's on, and CJ was by far the best college player I've seen. MJ in college was good, but there were others of similar impact- in fact you could argue that Barkley or Drexler were more spectacular in college.

Shaq was BIG. So was Stanley. They seemed about equal at the time, with Stanley having more offensive game and Shaq being better on D.

Walton doesn't count because Shaq played against more black players.

Chris Jackson was absolutely phenomenal here...but Pistol Pete is one of the best basketball players to ever play. It wouldn't be even remotely close if there was a 3 point line back for him...

No one will ever shoot 45 times a game either. His was great but his numbers are inflated by how many times he shot the ball
