The biggest difference is that CNN embedded with the forces during Desert Storm, so we got official reporting from various events. Wolf Blitzer and Bernie Shaw famously broadcasting from a hotel in Baghdad.
What we get now are tons of phone clips and some narrative. More content but not as dramatic.

I'm not really sure how Pahlavi could form or lead a transitional government;
simply put, Trump can not start dealing with him formally now and send him over, or he would be acting as a kingmaker (sending the deposed Shah's son over to reclaim control of the country). Pahlavi says he only wants to help the transistion, but you can't know what he would do once in power.
I think he'd have to get his arse over there somehow by himself, and raise popular support, and then we could choose to work with him. But at that point, would it still be considered "transitional"? We need somebody to surrender, or someone to take power and say "come in, we have it under control now".
And I don't think we can just bomb them into the Stone Age, and then quit and leave without somebody in charge.

You can see two parachutes in the video.
That looked like a pilot and a chute lagging behind just before opening, to me. Not two pilots ejecting.
First appears at the 5 second mark, the second around the 6 second mark. By 7 second mark, both are there and open before the camera pans down from them, following the plane.
quote:Nah, it is. You can see the silhouette pretty good from about 9 seconds on, as it spins down.
that doesn't look an F-15 to me.
It ain't an F-18, F-22 or F-35, wing profile is wrong.

Did they pick up the second guy?
Watch the original video, there's clearly two parachutes

2 parachutes, you can clearly see them at the 0.07 mark.

Annnnnd turkey has entered the chat.
They haven't hindered us, and based on the big build-up on their border with Iran, they knew it was coming.
Most of this diplomatic chatter is just for the home crowds; a lot of Europe doesn't want their Muslim immigrants going apeshit.
Lebanon clearly wanted Hezbollah to stand down so they don't get ripped.

quote:oh, I imagine they're trying desperately to find a way out of the country right now.
At this point it should not be nuclear talks. It should be total surrender and the government leaves the country
Who's going to take them, though?

Dude, why you sucking that Islamist cock?
That shite is just an attempt to drive a wedge between the US and one of it's allies, flared up about the same time as the pro-Palestine rallies.

When did Lafayette pass Baton Rouge as the 2nd best city in LA?
They were always in line with this.
Go back and look at the reported reactions of heads of state, in an article on the New York Times yesterday (Saturday). You will see some grandstand protesting from France, you will see Britain immediately state they weren't involved...
but look a little deeper and you will see the Germans say "yeah, we were told about this in advance".
If Germany was told, I guarantee France and the UK were, also. Which makes the French condemnation just that much more bitchy, since they knew and didn't act then.
I wonder, did the Germans wait until Macron acted like a bitch before they spilled the beans?

quote:So, let's examine your point of view, in context with all the celebrations by expatriate Iranians yesterday.
The exact same people who cheer on middle eastern wars, & bombings, are the exact same people who bitch & moan about so many middle easterners being relocated to the USA.
These people were forced to leave their country, and want to go back. They want to go rebuild a better Iran. They are celebrating because the death of Khamenei brings them a step closer to that.
If you bitch about refugees, maybe freeing their homeland so they can go back would be a good thing to do.
quote:Yeah, I'm not much of a WBB fan. I know we're good, but it's just not a sport I enjoy watching.
I'm still confused as to how the 2nd lowest #2 seed, get's paired with the top overall #1. The 2nd lowest #2 seed is SUPPOSED to be paired with the 2nd highest #1 seed. Are they doing this because they don't want LSU paired with UCLA for the third year in a row? I don't get it.
But seedings are a universal concept; it's supposed to be 1v8, 2v7 etc. Reward the top seed by pairing them with the weakest #2 seed.
Unless this report has some other service's rankings overlaid with the projections...
"we think the committee will put LSU as #8, but we rank them ourselves as #7"

lol no. They’re for Lebanon
Israel is simply being realistic and practical; Hezbollah, Hamas etc are going to try to get in some shots.

What’s that insinuating?
I suppose one could cynically predict that most Iranian-Americans will predict to vote MAGA now, and a conniving Dem might try to take them out of the equation.

The French : We're still huge pussies in case anyone forgot
quote:Soooo.....
France: President Emmanuel Macron called for the attacks to stop and asked for a meeting of the Security Council. He also wrote that the Iranian leadership “must understand that it now has no other option than to engage in good-faith negotiations” over its nuclear program, and added that the Iranian people “must also be able to build their future freely.”
Iran needs to stop trying to get nukes and oppressing their people, but it's not worth actually fighting over.
Sounds ... French.

So, our allies like to bitch about us, but at the end of the day
Those weasels want us to spend our money and blood defending them against Russia, while we are the big bad boogeyman anywhere else. frick them. Their lack of support since this operation started is all the more reason we should remove ourselves from the Ukrainian situation
The Brits: We didn't do it. We're armed so don't frick with us.
The Germans: Yeah, we knew about it. We'll catch up with Trump in a week or so, talk to him then. No biggie.
The Aussies (looking over at China): we choose... the US
Canada: was there ever a doubt? They're our wingman, and they know it.

quote:
Britain: The British government said it had not participated in the strikes and did “not want to see further escalation into a wider regional conflict.” It added that it had recently enhanced its defensive capabilities in the Middle East and that its immediate priority was the safety of British citizens in the region. “Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and that is why we have continually supported efforts to reach a negotiated solution,” the government said in a statement.
quote:
Germany: A government spokesman said in a statement that Germany had been informed by Israel in advance of the strikes. Chancellor Friedrich Merz “is monitoring the development closely and is in close coordination with European partners,” the statement said. Mr. Merz is scheduled to meet Mr. Trump in Washington next week.

Australia: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was among the few leaders who did not publicly urge restraint. “We support the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent Iran continuing to threaten international peace and security,” he said in a statement.
quote:
Canada: Prime Minister Mark Carney and his foreign minister, Anita Anand, backed the American action. “Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security,” they said in a statement.

Is there a current supreme leader for that statement to apply to?
I saw Fox say the handpicked successor is Sadiq Ardashir Larijani, who has sanctions from both the US and EU due to how he ran the judicial system there. They said he was actively involved in the severe crackdowns of the past couple months. He's a hardcore true believer, just as bad as the prior guys.
