saw Chris Jackson in High School, saw Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Vernell Singleton against Georgetown...saw Pete in 1966 or 1967 against Southern Mississippi(with Wendell Ladner). I picked him out because he wore those floppy grey socks around his ankles...saw him in the superdome with the jazz when it went down to the last game of the season with(?)from Houston for the NBA scoring championship...I have a brain fart. Pete was the most unbelievable player I have ever seen and I do not think we will ever see another like him

As a college center Bill Walton was much better than Shaq.

what a shock, by far the worst poster in the history of this site no matter what the name, makes a stupid comment.
Bill Walton is easily one of the top 3 CBB players ever.

maybe lew alcinder really wasn't all that good then b/c he played against a bunch of "slow white boys" from around the country.
What time frame are you in man? Alcinder played against Elvin Hayes, Artis Gilmore and many many other great black players. College basketball, maybe not in the south, was fully integrated by the time he played.
BTW, the Harlem Globetrotters are a show, not a real basketball team. They wanted Pete because he would have made the show great. Wilt played guard for them one year. PP was a great player but putting the fact that the Globe Trotters wanted him on his resume is a joke!

CJ was an amazing player, one of the quickest shots I ever saw.
But Pete still was head and shoulders better.
And a pretty cool guy.
Saw the only game he ever played in the PMAC.
Asked for his autograph after the game, he not only gladly did this, but he brought me into the locker room and introduced me to Elgin Baylor for his autograph as well.
Pete will always be # 1 in my book

Chris Jackson was the best scorer in the last 20-25 years of SEC basketball. But no one's close to Pistol..especially as a ball handler.

My vote goes to Shaq because he dominated on both ends of the floor. He wasn't nearly as skilled offensively as Maravich or Jackson, but his defensive presence made up for it IMO.

CJ is by far the best. Check stats and game winning shots. Pete had better numbers but that was different time. CJ avg. 30 ppg in his 2 years. Now if 1 college player scores 30 he all world. I love shaq too but i still have a lot cj games on tape and he was unbelievable

I'd take Pistol, Shaq, and Bob Bettit over him, Jackson was a great player but I'd say #4 just on LSU's list
