based on time at lsu, i'd put jackson at third. could be second, but pettit wins the tie break due to winning the sec and reaching the final four.
i know it's a team sport, but it's tough to pick between pettit and jackson during their time at lsu. obviously pettit had a hall of fame nba career.
pistol
pettit
jackson
shaq
several players can argue the 5th spot.
pistol and pettit are on the nba's 50th anniversary top 50 all-time players list. i'm sure shaq would be on a newer list.

That game was on sec rewind last year. He did the between the legs pull up at the top of the key for 3 like 5 times in a row that game. It was like watching someone as fast as AI but more polished and fundamentally sound with a much better j.

No shaq was voted to the nba 50 greatest players I think he had been in the nba for 3 or 4 years and still made the list.

He put a cross over move one time on a Florida player that was unbelievable.
I froze the tape and saw that CJ was up in the air shooting a 3 and the guy he put the move on was 5 feet away in a defensive stance still looking straight ahead to where Jackson had been a moment earlier.
Amazing quickness.

ah, i just remember it from way back. must've assumed shaq wasn't on it because he hadn't been in the nba that long at the time.
he's certainly one the top 50 nba players of all-time.

I thought the 50 greatest game out earlier too like 92 but it came out in 96. It's still amazing he made it with only 4 years in the league.

if he would've started playing basketball earlier, no telling what he would have done at lsu.

I had watched both the Loyola Marymount and Ole miss game as a child. Don't forget when LSU had beat UNLV also. CJ was a one man show and UNLV was #1 in the nation.
Some awesome OOC games during that era. The LMU game was legendary, it wore you out just watching on TV. It's not hyperbole to say how great that game was, or how fantastic a player Jackson was either.

Seriously. He was such a great shooter.
Ridiculous range, smooth stroke, deadly from the line, great ball-handler, and enough hops to throw down the alley-oop.
Did I miss anything?
It was like almost every game, he did something you've never seen before.

He was a lot better than Marcus Thornton.

He was the best LSU player I've ever seen.
I started watching in 1987.

Chris Jackson was the best college guard I ever saw live, besides all the crazy ball skills and field shooting, you better not let him get to the free throw line, dude had ice water in his veins, between that and having shaq tear the backboards down plus SR, I don't know how dale brown couldn't get us anywhere in the dang tournament with those teams. .....

CJ, One of my favorite lsu players, oh

Dude was unreal. Easily the best shooting guard of his generation.

He is in the Top 5 offensive CBB players ever. Literallly unstoppable at times.

I was at both games unlv Zander Loyola , Greates games I ever saw. . But Chris turned out to be an a-hole. Now realize he was mentally sick

The coldest shooting guard of his generation in college. He had such a green light that he would often pull up for 3s on one man fast breaks!
There was one person who did not have the handles like CJ (which probably led to him flaming out in the pros), but had the same dead-eye shot as CJ, and was from the same area...Ronnie Henderson. Had he stayed all 4 years at LSU, he would have re-written records. It's easy to come up with a top 5, but this kid would definitely make my second 5.

I was blessed and old enough to watch him and Pete as a kid. He was not only one of the smoothest I've seen. Pete was a better scorer overall. But Chris could flat out fly and when everyone else was 100% and he was at 75%.
